We are having to postpone our wedding due to a death in the family. Our wedding invitations are made, but have not been sent out yet. I am wondering if I need to get new ones made with the new wedding date, or can we just 'white out' the ONE line that reads the new date??

I am going to try it on one-- the background on the invitation is white so it shoudn't be off too badly by using 'white out' pen strips- or is that being too desperate and cheap??

might i recommend something a bit cleaner, like a sticker?

you can buy a bunch of adhesive paper that you could print the new date on. it would look much cleaner and probably be easier too!

First of all, I'm sorry to hear about the death in your family.

I'm not totally understanding why your wedding is delayed due to this unfortunate event. Typically invitations are sent out 1 to 2 months before the wedding. I don't know how a death 1 month before the wedding would change the date.

But, aside from that, I would recommend picking up white (or ivory, depending on your invitation color) Avery Labels designed for inkjet printers. Type up the new date in the same color and font (or as close to the color and font) as the text on your invitation. Print off the dates onto the labels. Then, use a sharp pair of scissors and neatly cut the dates out, peel off the backing and stick it to the invitation.

Whiteout will look messy, no matter how careful you are. Using labels will make it neater, more professional, and will still save you the expense of reprinting invitations.

White Out is not going to match the paper right and will look very bad.

You don't necessarily have to get entirely new invites. Simply print up a small card announcing the date correction and the reason for it and add it as an insert into the invites...."Please note that the wedding date has changed to July 2, 2000 at 4pm due to a death in the family"

In my opinion, the small details like that matter just as much as the big details. So yes, It can be considered as 'tacky' to go that route. However, if it is last minute and you don't have the time or money to be spending to get new invites printed and sent out....then you may want to stick with the white-out. You can always make it a running joke at the reception; smiles and laughter are what makes weddings so special.

Condolences on the loss you suffered.

Don't use the white out. It might mess up the rest of the invitation (smudge) due to the great service that our postal workers provide! Arrgghh

Simply put in a nice insert with the new date. You can go to Kinko's or a similar facility and they can create them for you quickly and cheaply. A smaller company can probably do it for you even cheaper actually (I bought 1,000 business cards for $33.00 and they only took two days to make them!)

But please don't use the white out. Some people (like me!) keep the invitations as keepsakes, and I don't know what I would think about seeing the whiteout on the invitations.

Good luck with your wedding!

what if you printed out a paragraph that states due to an emergency in the family the wedding date is now....

that way you can still use the original invitations with the insert of the above.

I would not use anything on the invitations. you could also try to talk with the company that did them for you maybe they could give you ideas on how to change the date

The white out would look tacky. Draw a line through the date and put an asterisk. Below write in postponed until whenever due to a death in the family.

No don't write out the invitations. Just send a little note with the new date and time. Explain the reason if you want. I think that's what I would do b/c invitations are expensive. Also you can go to the place where you got the invites and see if they can reduce the cost b/c of your situation.
Good Luck and Congrats
Sorry for your loss

Hello,
I actually had the same problem, my fiance became sick last year and our wedding was originally for June 16, 2007 and we had to reschedule it for August 4, 2007 my mother-in-law said to just white it out and put in the new date but it stood out alot so i contacted the vendor and had the invitations redone at a discounted price...if you speak to the vendor and let them know the reason they should be able to work with you since it has already been set up in there system. Hope i was able to help.

I would use the white out because no one looks at or remembers the wedding invitations anyways. People are just going to throw them out. White out and save yourself some money!

My condolences on the death in your family.

I believe it may not look that great with white out. Perhaps find a pen in the same color ink as the invite, neatly cross out the date, then write it neatly next to it? You may also want to include a small card regarding the change of date. Those that know you and your family will understand.

Congratulations on your wedding and good luck.
