I am sure it will not be very long before it is readily available quite cheaply to everyone - after all all of my TV programmes are received in my home via satellite - and I have an interactive TV system which allows me to do all sorts of things like ordering goods and magazines and play games with other viewers on my TV - just another step away from full internet.

I think that this is being done today, although not massively. The cost of doing this would be expensive as you either have to buy or rent that satellite dish to receive and transmit data. This is the main reason people opt for more practical approaches. But if you want to try it out and you can afford it, try searching for satellite internet providers in your area.

Hughes, which built and for a time operated DirecTV, runs a satellite internet service called HughesNet in the continental US. Been doing that for over a decade. Still pretty expensive at $80/mo and requires you to eventually purchase your equipment either upfront or in installments.

it can be done as an alternative to broadband, but it's one way only, all your communication to the web site has to go via a phone system. For downloads it is very fast, but uploads just can't be done.
