Our cat's name is Ozzy.

When we first got a cat my husband wasn't as keen as I was, so to pacify him I conceded that he could have the honour of naming it. Of course, my husband took full advantage and named the animal after one of his favourite rockers!

However; the name has ended up being rather apt since our cat is bit of a hunter who, much like his namesake, is quite adept at biting the heads off of defenseless little creatures...

Nope. "Tabby" means the pattern of the coat (swirls and stripes) rather than color. Tabby cats can be red (orange/ginger), grey, or brown. Some of them have the "M" on their heads and are called Mackerel. There are even some tabby cats who have calico coloring and spots. Lots of people seem to think all red (orange or ginger) cats are males, but that's not true. I've frequently had two female red tigers (ginger tabby cats) in the same litter. I've seen quite a few red cats (orange/ginger) who had no stripes or swirls at all and were really just one solid color. Some female, some male. The tabby pattern is more likely though. And no, calico or three-color cats are not always female, it's just that a three-color male cat is rare, and they are almost always sterile. A three-color male cat who isn't sterile is EXTREMELY rare. I've yet to see any three-color male cats, sterile or otherwise. Of course, since I'm a regular shelter volunteer I've seen way more than my fair share of cats!

When I was a little girl, we used to have a cat called Oscar, and then bless him, when he died we got a brother and sister, and we called them Mr. T and Pippa. Then, we had a bizarre experience when one day there was a noise at the back door and there were two kittens, sitting there and meowing, so we had to call them Fairfax and Carstairs (after the British airmen in 'Allo 'Allo, for those of you too young to remember! They kept popping up and saying "hello" which made us think of the names) At the same time, we also had a lovely boy called Jeeves.
Now that I am married (and none of the above are alive anymore) we have two boys, brothers, called Reginald and Alfred. Reggie and Alfie if they've been good!!

Our current three are all Siamese. One is a traditional seal point named Shelby, aka Pretty Girl. Second is an oriental seal point named Sabrina, aka Baby Girl or Velcro. Third is an oriental blue point named Forrest, aka Baby Boy. Past cats have been Georgia (also a traditional Siamese seal point), Charlie, Bubba, Daisy, Naomi, Mama, Dirty Nose, Pink Nose, Angel, Peanut Butter. We used to live on a farm and had a LOT of cats. That's all I can remember. We had three dogs whose names were Sheba, Patches, and Cowboy. My stepsister got a puppy named Gracie.

Hi!

My cat is called Morrissey! (This is the name of the lead singer of The Smiths!) http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r246/emmie2409/Morrissey.jpg
Although he gets called Moomin, Mr Magoo, MaScoober, Monster Moo, Moo Moo Head, Mighty Moo, Big Fella, etc!

My kitten is called Pixies (the name of a band!) http://i146.photobucket.com/albums/r246/emmie2409/untitled.jpg

We've only had her for 2 weeks, but so far her nicknames include Gizmokin (because her big ears make her look like Gizmo from The Gremlins!), Pixie Poo, Pixielicks, Pretty and Little Lady!

When I was growing up, we had a cat called Tigga (he died two weeks ago, very sad), and Toby and Sophie.

So that's 3 'people' names there in total!

xx Emmie
