how much time was it between the interview and the call saying that you're hired. I'm aware of such things as background checks and what not and I know the process can take a while.

3-6 weeks.

Once was a couple of days, another was as much as 2 months.

It will depend on where you are working.

The first thing you do after an interview is go home and write a thank you note...NOT email...a letter!! include in it some bit of information that may not have been brought up in the interview; if this is not applicable, just letting them know you appreciated their taking the time for the interview. If you have heard nothing in 3 days, call them back...3 days seems like a long time, but if you call back in 2 days, you appear to be pushy....always thank them for their time after the conversation....If you still hear nothing after 6 or 7 days, I'd call them ONE last time...it can't hurt!! you may then be told the position was already filled, or perhaps they are having trouble deciding between you and another person!! you never know!!!!!

This is normally relative. It depends on how urgently they need someone to fill up a post.
Call them up for an update and find out how you fared. If they are not ready ask when you should check on them. In the mean time, keep yourself occupied with other things. You could even apply for other jobs and take the one with the best offer.

Good luck, they will eventually give you an answer!

It all depends on how proactive the HR Department is in getting all of the ducks in a row and how fast the Hiring Manager makes the decision to proceed with your job offer.

Generally is today's world this takes about 2-weeks or 10 business days from Interview to offer and then you both negotiate a start date.

Depending on the company, it can take a couple weeks or so, or less. Did you ask when exactly the position would be filled?

Be sure to make contact back with the company, every few days, just to let them know you are very much interested in the job.

It varies drastically depending upon job type. I have been on interviews and been called back up to two weeks later with an offer.

My current job was very unusual. I had an impromptu interview and was called an hour later and informed they had a contract ready for me to sign.

What type of position are you going for? Add details and we'll be better able to answer.

In my experiences it's been as little as 2 hours and as long as 2 months.

Depends on how quickly they need someone, how many people applied and are being interviewed, and if it's a larger company then there's a mountain of HR bureaucracy to go through.

If you really want the job, make a contact with the hiring contact and show that you want it.

I just hired a person - and partly because he made it very apparent that he was focused on it and did all he could to stay in contact with me.

I know he'll do the same for our clients.
