I am Catholic - but lately i feel like i am getting farther and farther away from God ... i dont know why - but i just am ... and i went and watched that new movie Evan Almighty ... and as i was watching it i was just thinking "wowwww this movie is soooo unrealistic" then i realized "waittt ... the Bible says this ACTUALLY happened"

it made me think the story of Noah's ark is just TOO unbelievable - and crazy ... and when i got home i tried to read the bible - and i just put it down and i was thinking " this is just too weird - now that i think about it "

and now im starting to think what if everyone is right - that the bible was just written by someone ... and its just a STORY?

what is your take? PLEASE be kind ...

one, you let a movie sway your opinion?
two, why is it unrealistic, ask any geoligist in the whole world that the natural topography of the world looks like giant rivers or large amsses of water carved it.
three- The whole re-populating the world is even easier. here Noah, his three sons, there daughters and noahs wife. if each of the sons had two children a boy and a girl. and each of them had two more. and they had two more. and they had two more. that's 24 right there. but since they lived longer around to 5oo years old. they would have more like 8 each. so that explains that.
four. The Bible has never been proven wrong, and has been proven right.
fifth-(this is the ultimatum right here) if this is SOOOOOOO unrealistic, how come they found Noahs Ark? they found it in Turkey, in Mount Ararat.
six, so if it's not real how can it be there?
seven try working on the Catholic thing, good orginazation, bad church.

Noah Almighty Movie

1. Evan Almighty is a MOVIE. movie. as in not real... therefore it can;t be taken as "proof" or evidence of anything, even a similar religious story.
2. The Bible is a system of beliefs and morals along with a history of the Jewish people.
3. Even from a secular point of view flooding occured all the time in ancient times, so a sudden flood scouring a region, where only one family with the foresight to build a boat is not such a stretch.
4. Regardless the point of the flood story is that with God anything is possible (in fact ONLY with God is anything possible). Believe in God or not, but if you're just now discovering that things in the Bible don't make literal scientific sense where have you been?

Yes, i'll go see it. I'll watch it in the hope that i'll snort. Men and women take matters too significantly. How will you "know" that it's making enjoyable of some thing unless you go see it. If I watch it and get offended, I is not going to watch it once more. Plus, if you are offended early on in any film for any intent, simply go to the ticket window and ask for a refund or cross to look at a further movie. Most movie houses will oblige.

Dear Child of God ,Do not believe the world, who would have you believe that the flood never happened. Peter warned us that in the last days people would mock the Bible account of the flood.

Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, And saying, Where is the promise of his coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation. For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water: Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished: 2 Peter,3:3-6

Willingly ignorant means dumb on purpose! The wisdom of men is foolishness with God...

1 Corinthians 3:19 For the wisdom of this world is foolishness with God.

Paul also warned against false science and vain Philosophy
ofthe world.

1 Timothy 6:20 O Timothy, keep that which is committed to thy trust, avoiding profane and vain babblings, and oppositions of science falsely so called:

Colossians 2:8 Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ.

Also forget not the multitude of geologic evidence for the flood... The Grand Canyon, seashells on Mt. Everest and evverywhere on earth. Every ancient civilization has recorded the flood. Judeo/Christian, Chinese, Babylonian, Egyptian, Sumerian, Assyrian, and etc. Check it out! It is true.

In conclusion dear beloved , pray unto the God of Heaven, and he will reveal the truth to you. Trust in Jesus the Rock of Ages and not in vain worldly men and their movies. God bless you Cap'n Arlo

I think the secret to being a religious person, is to just accept things without putting too much thought into it. As soon as you let logic in, the whole religion thing goes down the tubes. Religious doctrines are all written by humans, interpreted by humans & adjusted according to the whims of whoever wrote them.
You have the choice of unquestioning following - ie stop thinking for yourself, or take all the info you're presented with, think about it, and make up your own mind about what sounds right and what sounds like fiction. None of us will know who was right until we die, so you've got just as good a chance as anyone else, religious or not, if you just make up your own mind. God is a personal experience for every person - what the church tells you is true may not be.

I have been the same place you are - about 10-15 years ago. I was raised in a strictly christian family. After some reading and personal exploration, I have found that like you, I don't believe a syllable within the bible.

If, like me, you actually read the bible in full, you will find a host of things that all told, are impossible to reconcile. I don't believe in virgin births, or people living to 900 years old, or that the earth was formed 4000 years ago.

Read more, with an open mind, and see what you think after absorbing all within that book. I became an atheist.

I think that's kind of the point of the story, it's supposed to be larger-than-life.

Although it's not the least believable thing in the Bible.

Do I believe it actually happened? Not sure. As a Christian I think it may have happened, but the Bible is also full of fictional stories and parables in order to teach a point. Could be that too.

In the end, I don't think it's one of those huge faith-shattering issues.
