I don't know but it is a very good question,
I have seen so many people who don't believe in God when a tragedy, happens they run to God and pray and then when God dosent answer their prayer they say see there is no God.
They only want a God when it suits them, and when he dosent come through for them they bash him and claim that there is no God.
Only a fool says there is no God.

Maybe because when people say they do not believe in god, it means they do not believe in god? Or don't you believe people?
When people are distressed it is only normal they hope for a solution, even a supernatural one. That does not mean that god exists. It might mean that is how people started making a god in dreaming about a place where there is no suffering.
When you go home and you are very hungry, maybe you dream your mother has cooked your favorite dish. That does not mean she has it ready when you come home. It is probably corned beef and beans again!
I hope you see the valid point.
Have a nice day.

I may answer this a little differently then some people. Everyone is born with a void in their life and heart, that can only be filled by God. He created us that way- people that say that they do not believe in God, may have had a bad experience with those who claim to be believers- and so are turned off to God.- You noticed I did not say religion. If someone believes in God, which I most certainly do, if we are really following Him we have to confess that we are sinners, and accept Christ as payment for those sins. We as human, do not like to admit that- we want to be strong- and pretend that we are not "that bad". However, when something bad happens to us, we can automatically cry out to God,because as I said before deep down in every person is a void that only HE can feel. Some non-believers will never cry out to God even in the bad times, however, some do- and for those people I pray that during their times of stress will come to know the love and grace of God

The whole reason behind having a God is for the weak to find a crutch, or the ignorant to find a higher life form to guide them.
Humans are the most vunerable living things on the planet and we have abstract thought that confuses us. What gives us peace of mind is God.
However if you seek understanding, answers to problems, and knowlege, that is like having a God.

I've not observed this. I've been in situations where my life was literally on the line, I've been in situations of extreme agony, and since I left believing behind, I have not once called upon a deity in a moment of trial -- I examined the situation, as thoroughly as time allowed, and simply took what I considered the best possible course of action.
There is an old saying, "there are no atheists in foxholes." However, this saying is simply not true -- there are many fine men and women who serve in the armed forces of the world who are atheists and whose minds do not turn to the supernatural when the bullets are flying.
I know I for one would prefer having a comrade-at-arms who didn't bow his head and turn himself into a sitting duck when the bullets were flying, but instead kept a sharp wit about him or her and kept his focus on the tangible world around him or her

I have never done this nor has any other atheist told me they have done this. Most atheists help themselves get out of trouble or ask for help from family or friends or else don't get into trouble in the first place.
Obviously if they ask god for help then by definition they are not an atheist to begin with.
In a way this is just a insult against all atheists. You are trying to pretend all atheists are as insecure and childish as you are. Maybe when you work through your bigotry you will learn to have respect for those who do not agree with you.

I have never heard of an Atheist doing that. It is another lie spread by Christians who are too brainwashed to understand that millions of people can actually live their lives without an imaginary friend.
It is just rubbish and has about as much basis in fact as your collection of bronze age folk tales. Which is to say, NONE.

If you were falling off a cliff and saw a thread that you knew could not hold you, you'd still grab at that thread.
Some people that don't believe do clutch at threads, because when the situation is dire enough you'd gladly shake God or the Devils hand just to get through.

People do desperate things in desperate times, logic fades and they look for hope illogically. Think about how often a situation like that is played on television or films or stories from childhood, it would feel natural to ask for help if they are powerless. There is no difference between wishing and praying in times like those and the results are the same no matter what.

Some folks tend to view the Divine as a kind of cosmic escape hatch.
As long as God will bail them out, it doesn't matter WHAT they do. Being "saved" is kinda the same concept.

I wonder how many of you Christians, actually know any atheists. When awful things happen, I reach out to my family and friends, not an invisible man in the sky. When bad things happen, I don't blame god. I don't place blame on beings that don't exist. That would be useless.
