My computer specs
ECS mother board (supports Pentium 4, DDR&DDR2 Ram)
pentium 4 processor
512 MB PC 400 DDR Ram
80 gig and 40 gig hard disk sata
combo drive dvd/cd-rom
128 MB Nvidia VGA
(all specs are newly bought except for the 40 gig HD w/c i reformat it into NTFS (i know it's a stupid thing to do, deleting the existing OS) coz i don't want to keep my win 98 OS)

I've tried to install windows xp more than 24 times but always failed to do so. I followed the mother board's manual for the default configurations, plug all the necessary devices, checked all IDE cables and power supply yet i still recieve a blue screen displaying different errors. i also try to run the the windows xp installer on my friends computer and it runs perfectly.

I succesfully installed an OS on my 40 gig HD using my friends computer yet when I plug it to my computer it can the detect the OS but wasn't able to set it up and it ends up re-starting.

Help please!

You didnt say what speed your PROC is

Minimum:
233 MHz CPU *
64 MB of RAM (may limit performance and some features) *
1.5 GB of available hard disk space *
Super VGA (800 x 600) or higher-resolution video adapter and monitor
CD-ROM or DVD drive
Keyboard and Microsoft Mouse or compatible pointing device

the micro must be a min of 233 Mhz thats slow BTW
need access to 800x600 on boot you didnt say what Video
card model your are using. Older NVidia cards required
a driver load to leave 640x480x16 mode.
Some 80 meg Hard drives require you to FORMAT with thier software IE MAXTOR otherwise you get a 22 G drive
with Windows format and it has errors in it .

IN almost every case where Windows crashes BLUE on
install it is the MICRO or RAM memory that is BAD.

hay , i think its not a any kind of softwear problem its a hardwear problem your one of the ram or mother board or other hardware have failed thats why you are unable to instal os .
dont worry have a coffee and remove one of the RAM and try to boot ur system if fail to boot again then put it on and remove anoter one but if you have a single slot 512 mb then you have to arenge another RAM and try it if its not work then you have to chenge your motherboard.
But i think you will be able to start your computer again after chenging RAM

You can create a recovery set but keep in mind drivers update continuously, so if you reinstall down the road, you will end up having to update, or install those drivers anyway.

the first two lines of the Blue Screen will direct you to the issue. Without this, we all can only guess at what the problem may be.

sounds to me like you are not adding the sata drivers press F2 when you see it at the bottom of the screen it says "press F2 to install scsi and additonal devices" then you will need to put in your floppy disk that has your sata drivers on. if you dont do this xp will not find any harddrives and you will have to restart
