The total number of law enforcement personnel is hard to say. There are local police, county police, state police, federal marshalls and the FBI for instance. There are also, court officers, corrections officers, Border Patrol officers, Customs officers, Division of Motor Vehicles officers, Park Rangers, Parole and Probation officers etc. Pretty much all are armed to some degree or other. Most have a sidearm and some patrol officers have shotguns and/or assault rifles. There are also the SWAT type teams that are more heavily armed.

The last time (last year) I saw a number for police officers it was about 575,000 sworn officers. Since the number only included sworn, certified law enforcement officers, I would have to conclude that all of them are armed.
There are other personnel that have law enforcement duties but have very limited authority, such as some school guards.
Keep in mind that there are about twice the number of security guards as police officers. Many of them are armed but most are not.

The figure will get even harder to pin down since now, by Federal law, Retired police, Military etc can carry a firearm if they qualify. This law has been in effect for 2 years now.
I would guess there are hundreds if not thousands of retired law enforcement armed now as well and that is in Illinois alone.

I can't begin to guess how many as new ones are sworn in frequently. Not all officers are armed as school security here are sworn law enforcement officers with arrest authority but the school board denies them permission to carry sidearms.

Yes, all commissioned police officers are armed in the U.S. It is impossible to get an exact number in the U.S. The numbers change constantly.

in ohio we have about 15,000 on duty at any given time. so that would be about 2-3 times that amount for ohio. and most, if not all of our officers carry on and off duty. where i went to school, our school resource officers carry as well.
