Name him Judas instead.
That would get the conversations going.

I don't see it as being blasphemous at all, but rather a nice label. Hard to live up to, though. Jesus is common among Hispanics; people may call him Chuy which is a nickname for Jesus. Joshua is another version of Jesus. Probably better not call him Elohim but Emmanuel is okay. Dionysus was sort of a god of all trades, kind of a Greek Jesus, and often shortened to Dion. The Arabic name for Jesus is Esa which sounds alot like Esau or even Isaac. Anyhow, if you give him a more usual middle name, your child can always be known by that. I would hate for kids to tease him by asking him to perform miracles like raising a hamster from the dead or turning water into Kool Aid!

That depends on your cultural background. Many men in Latin America are named Jesus--although they are overwhelmingly Christian. Suffice it to say while it might or might not be blasphemous, it is certainly incongruous--and if, as your avatar suggests, you are British, it would also be culturally inappropriate and subject your child to ridicule. Is it more important to be witty/sardonic in your naming, or to gift your child with a helpful name to travel this world under? Don't focus on what Christians think; focus on what your child would think!

No, you're considered mexican. Pronounced (Hey soose) Jesus is one of the most common first names in the world. If you're a white american and name your kid Jesus (jee zus) they you purposely put ridicule on your child for the purpose of slandering religion. You're not only going to be considered and looked at as strange to religious people but you will be considered a jerk by friends and family for afflicting your kid with the name of God's son and subjecting him to ridicule by his peers.

My boyfriend's name is Christian and he was brought up a christian by pious parents, now he's an organised-religion hating atheist. I honestly don't think it matters. I was once served in a bar in Ibiza by a really cool guy named Jesus but it was pronounced "Hay-Zoose".

you have a biblical name, thomas, and so do a lot of the atheists who answer these questions. but do your kid a favor- don't name him jesus. not because of blasphemy, but because of the kids at school. you'd be giving those kids a little too much to work with.
