the practice of brahmacharya or celibacy is very rare these days in india because of improper education which does not throw any light on the importance of this practice.i want to blame the parents as well who do not show their children the evil effects of impure life and by the means of such examples do not illustrate the requirement of following brahmacharya strictly.
the meaning of brahmacharya is often misunderstood as not marrying or being a virgin or not talking or looking at opposite sex etc.however this is far from reality which defines brahmacharya as a process for realisation of brahma by controlling all the senses and channelising all the energy in one direction.this is not done by hating opposite sex or running away from them but by understanding that the devine love is higher than the bodily love and thus our body should be used for the attainment of devine love.no girl or boy is hated in this process but is seen as a body i.e the creation of God,a means to liberation and at the same time lust is eradicated from mind by constantly remembering the goal and by realising the evil effects of falling from brahmacharya.the examples of evil effects of not living a chaste life are strong enough to keep the follower on path, those who do not follow brahmacharya can not have equal amount of willpower, strength of both mind and body, inner peace, respect and love for humanity as possesed by a celibate.the importance of brahmacharya,it`s effects in our lives cannot be explained to impure people just as the meaning of colours cannot be taught to a blind person.i believe in the law of karma which says that we get exactly what we give to the world,so by this law a brahmachari gives his whole energy for some purpose and thus he must get an equal result which comes in the form of devine conciousness achievement of which can take many births for an ordinary person but the brahmachari does this in one birth itself.it is a well known fact that concentration works wonders, like a scattered light from sun just makes things visible but if concentrated can burn a piece of paper, in the same way any amount of concentrated effort minimises the time of achievement of our goal and in this way brahmacharya works.nobody can cheat the nature, one who claims of being a brahmachari but does evil works is undoubtedly not the one.people should not listen what someone says but what he does is the only test of a brahmachari like when the sun shines in the sky nobody can believe if someone says it`s night.
the practice of brahmacharya is extremely tough in modern times,it is said that it`s easy to tame a tiger,it`s easy to climb a mountain,it`s easy to win a battle but it`s extremely difficult to win lust.no amount of human will can help in the long run, when it is supported by devotion to God and mercy of God then only this can be achieved.many people conserve their energy for few months, one or two years and then end of falling a prey to lust, losing large amount of energy,so the will must be backed by the affection to God.time must be spent in devine contemplation which purifies the heart.
brahmacharya leads to yoga i.e complete realisation of the self,it is also accompanied by kundalini activation which arises devine conciousness in the individual.blessed is the person who follows brahmacharya.

God made man and woman for each other, so it is with birds, animals, mammals; male and female. Any thing you do to curb the desires of your body is unnatural. Nature has paved the right way for us and to govern to the right path through religions with simple doctrine ONE MAN ONE WOMAN. It is upto us which course we pick up. If it is just to cheat people and expose Bramacharya and indulge in unnatural affairs with young boys, married women behind the Mandirs walls or the ashrams we have to be responsible to God and surely punishment is there in this world and the next world.

So my friend 'brahmacharya' is not an Indian culture nor a religion or a branch of any religion but it has been a cover up for those people whose lust is never satisfied and they have been indulging in nefarious unnatural activities behind a veil. That is why you will see more and more people practising these activities at those places where illiterate people are gathering for their good luck, to know their future or perhaps to get sons.

Because people nowadays are no longer interested in achieving spiritually, the practice of brahmacharya is also declining. One simply cannot make any kind of genuine spiritual progress if one is too preoccupied with bodily appetites, in addition to the simple fact that having sex drains away the energy that one needs to 'raise' the consciousness to the high pitch necessary to attain 'enlightenment'.
