you're right on. Although there are some prejudices that existed before, we can thank the Karl Rove machine for stirring up these people into a frenzy of immigrant-bashing. They are very good at what they do - they steer the debate the way that the poor and less educated will grasp on to with soundbites and simplistic statements about "stealing jobs" and amnesty- never to the real issues of the fact that they are the party of the fatcat corporation as you say, the party trying to take away voting rights little by little, the party sending young men and women - overwhelmingly poor and minority - off to a pointless war to die. It's the same thing that happened during the Jim Crow and civil rights era. The powers that be were somewhat successful in getting poor whites to be at the forefront of anti-civil rights and against integration by pitting them against blacks - when if you look at it from a socio-economic status, the poor whites had a lot more in common with blacks.

no. I am not of a lower class and I do feel some anger against illegal immigrants. Its not just a low income job thing. It is a culture and lifestyle thing. The anger comes from the lack of assilmilation from these people. They come and try to force us to accept their cultures without accepting our American culture. Most illegal aliens crossing the border can't even tell you about their own history let alone American history. Then they demand you learn their language. These situation create hostile enviroments for everybody. You have to give a little to get a little. If we as Americans are giving our hard earn benefits, understand and tolerance then what are the aliens giving? They aren't doing anything more than what we as American can do our selves. If anything they are being taken advantage of by business men and people of their own kind because they don't know any better.

Obviously, those who are most hurt by them are those competing with them and seeing their own wages and opportunities drop. That big business is complicit doesn't change the fact that illegal immigrants are the perpetrators and that citizens and legal immigrants hurt by illegal immigration are the victims.
If the H1B plan to let in unlimited skilled people so long as they get a bachelor's degree from our scruffiest college plus 190,000 on top of that each year goes through as tech industry is pushing for, you will see the pain climb the ladder. Right now, it hits public schools, hospitals and services. If you don't have a child in an impacted public school, are temporarily young and healthy, and not yet on a fixed income or without work 'it doesn't impact you.'
Then all you see are the cheaper prices at Wal-Mart.

I'm upper middle class and I'm damn angry about illegal immigration. Companies that hire illegal workers are most likely avoiding paying taxes on the employees. They usually hire and substandard wages and increasing their profits exponentially and the companies escape accountability for their criminal acts. School systems by court ruling are required to educate the children irregardless sapping more and more resources. They are also have to establish special programs for language barriers, again more and more costs. Many Mexicans are moving several families into one home or apartment, 15 or 20 people which is illegal and presents fire and health hazards. Roads are crumbling, school buildings are getting old with little money to buld new ones, social security and medicare is being strained yet I'm suppose to feel sympathetic about illegals who commit a crime by entering this country without permission or authorization, demand rights they didn't fight for instead of staying and making their own country better. My ancestors spilled a lot of blood for this country and I will not sit by and let foreigners just walk in and change everything just to suit themselves.

Low-lower middle class people that are angry, are angry because they have paved the way for so long and along come new people who can seem to get benefits and same paying jobs without going through the challenges that the low income people had to face. This is not a fault or a blame-it is merely an attitude that adjusts itself in time. Immigrants and low income people usually end up sharing aspects of life like jobs or neighborhoods. They have to get along. Do wealthy people have any reasons to be angry with anyone?

I believe that most Americans would be okay with immigrants that would come into the country legally, pay taxes, and not expect free health care and alot of special treatment. It is very sad when I drive down the street and can not read most of the signs and billboards. I don't live in Mexico, France, Germany,I live in the United States..They come over here and set up a mexican town..If they want to live like mexicans, stay in Mexico..When my family lived in France , we learned the language and the customs..we didn't set up our own little United States..Americans are supporting thousands of men & women that are illegal immigrants that are in our prison system..why ??? Ship their butts back..we have enough crime as it is..why should we spend the money on them ?
As far as being low-lower middle class Americans, the key key word is Americans..doesn't matter what level the income is..

Funny I thought that most people that are angry with the all of the ILLEGALS were simply American's that desired to have the laws of this nation enforced?
It should also be EVERY tax paying citizen since that's who supports these millions of criminals that continue to steal healthcare and education as well as millions of dollars in other social services.
If you are an American that is NOT angered by what is currently going on with these millions of criminal invaders than you aren't really an American. You are a traitor to your own nation!
Despite what the news and other liberals tell you, there is NO benefit to illegal immigration. When you factor in the billions that they steal each year, they can hardly be considered "cheap labor".

I would hope that every single person in the United States is concerned for their fellow countrymen, just because you yourself are not affected does not mean that you should turn your back on those who are. The working and middle class are the very backbone of this economy and its about time we started protecting their efforts. Our government and big business have practically declared war against our middle class and its time we put a stop to it.
Side note for you, a large amount of visa overstays (illegal immigrants) are working in high skilled jobs making very good wages, but still save that company money, they are paid less than the going rate for that position - in other words, they make significantly less than an American worker in that same position, yet again... cheap labor... Wake up

" Do you reckon the Americans who are most angry at the immigrants are low-lower middle class themselves?"
Yes.
Because the "fatcat" who has illegals building his house, tending his grounds, nannying his children, cleaning his house, working in his business, etc... knows that HIS livelihood isn't in jeopardy from illegal aliens. Lower-middle class slobs like me are being marginalized by "Pedro" who works for less than half of an American 'living wage'.
In my state, 10 years ago, the trades of brickmasonry, sheetrock and concrete finishing were predominantly black trades. Today they have been absolutely hijacked by illegals. What do you think happened to the millions of blacks who used to earn living wages in those trades? Have they just moved up a rung on the ladder? I think not. The ghetto is growing again, sadly, as former opportunities evaporate, aided by socialist-leaning fatcats in Washington.
STOP HITLARY NOW!!!

I criticize the government that ignores it's solem oath to uphold the Constitution of the United States which means its laws about immigration too.
I criticize the fatcat businesspeople who hire illegal immigrants just because they want a higher profit margin which mainly goes into their own pockets.
I criticize both political parties for trying to pander to this group just in hopes of ingratiating themselves for votes.
I can keep going. I criticize anyone who will not accept and follow the law. So no its not just low or lower middle class who are angry.

To answer your question, about 250 million Americans are angry, and a large number of them are lower middle class. The problem with the question though is that Americans aren't angry with immigrants, they are angry with illegal aliens. They are angry with the federal govt whom allow big business and corp. elites to exploit cheap labor at the expense of American workers. Many Americans went from being middle class to lower middle class because of illegal aliens and outsourcing of jobs.
