God can convince anyone. He is the sovereign almighty Creator who knows all things. The Spirit of God gives a person the gift of faith to believe. Those who adhere to Calvinist doctrine refer to it as "irresistible grace" where once God calls a person they will answer no matter what their previous predisposition towards God was.

Because we're not God.

Any Christian knows people who seemed to be ones not given to Christianity at all, and then suddenly have become "transformed by the renewing of their mind."

I love this, never get tired of it, and realize anew what a good thing it is that I am not in charge!

OoOoopss...just re-read the question. And I agree with it: "Why try to convince?" Well, we really shouldn't, except through love and encouragement and prayer. Apologetics (or "convincing") really doesn't work, unfortunately, or a lot more people I love might have converted long ago....

But prayer does! So I guess our "convincing" really needs to be done via prayer with the Decider.

[Oh yes, Martin, that great phrase: irresistible grace.]

If there was a God and if it was so important to that God that Timmy believe in him, then surely his great omnipotence could offer up something better than a book written so ambiguously that no one on earth can even agree on what it's supposed to mean.

Thats why God gave us our own minds to believe in whatever we wanted and have several options. This world would be alot better if everyone did believe but thats why we make choices of our own. He doesnt try to make you believe in him. You have to go by faith if you want. Thats why there is a Heaven for those who do and a hell for those who dont.

God knows, we don't, so we need to do what we can, so their blood isn't on us.
