I am attending college this fall semester, and I am getting married this August. On all of my financial aid forms I am putting only my information for 2006. I also have for the form that asks you to estimate your income for 2007, and I only put down my info, and never mentioned that I'm getting married.

Once we are married, will I need to change this? Or will it be okay since I got married after the forms were required, and just not worry about it.

I don't want to tell them if I don't need to, because with my fiance and my income combined, I probably won't receive any aid at all.

Thank you.

If you have already filed your fafsa as single and you will be married in a few months, next year you will have to file married. Now, that they are asking for next years income, you will have to put both you and your husbands info, or don't get married. Students who have lied, have gotten caught and have lost their aid permanently...even if they changed schools. Good luck!

If you have already filed the FAFSA as a non-married student (whether you are independent or dependent), marriage status cannot be updated after you are married. Therefore, you will remain a single student for financial aid purposes for the 07-08 year and not be able to file as a married student until 08-09.

If you have not yet filed the FAFSA, you need to determine if it's to your advantage to file now or to wait until after you are married. If you are still considered dependent (meaning you have to provide your parent's financial situation) it's usually to your advantage to wait until after you are married as then your aid eligibility will be based on yours and your spouse's income (assuming it's less than what your parent's make). If you are able to file as an independent file now as your income alone will be less than yours and your spouse's income combined.

Way bad idea!!!

If you accept aid based on the fact that you are single, when in fact you are married, I think you know what a court would call that.

What matters is the condition you are in when you receive the check, not what it was when you filled out some paperwork.

Do the right thing.

If you are already an independent student and you are not married as of the date you file the FAFSA, you will correctly file your FAFSA with only your income without penalty (and you can't count your fiance as part of the household size). If you are still considered a dependent student, and you are not married as of the FAFSA file date, you will correctly file your FAFSA with your and your parents financial data.

If, however, you are married on the FAFSA file date, you will file your FAFSA with your and your spouse's information.

for this year you are fine, as long as your are not married when the forms are filed. next year, you are going to have to provide hubby's income and that will cost you aid money next year
