There are many simple things you can do to spend quality time with your child:

• Play a game—if you do this you should let the child pick at least every other time you sit down to play one. If you get to always pick, it won't seem very fair to your child. If you never get to decide, and are always playing a game that you don't enjoy, you are less likely to stick with it. This can also do more than just help you spend a fun time with your children, it can also help to teach your child, through experience, that everyone's feelings, even their parents', matter.

• One thing that may not seem a big deal to parents is for the child to get individual attention with each parent. This means that, no matter how difficult it may be to arrange, you can do something like take your child to the store without any of their siblings or the other parent. During day to day life, without even realizing it, you may not always be able to give your child your full undivided attention. There are other children (your child's siblings) that also need attention, as well as the other parent. by doing this little thing with your child, even though it may not be something that is particularly fun, it enables you to focus fully on that child alone for a while, and children need this at least every once in a while.

• One excellent way to spend quality time with your child is to find a common interest with them, such as a certain sport, etc. If you do this, you are given a lot more opportunities to bond with your child naturally.

• Acting like a kid with your children can provide some of the best-spent time, because it allows your child to view you as a friend or playmate for a while, as opposed to just their boss. You obviously shouldn't act like a child on a regular basis, but you should definitely get in the dirt or on the swings with your kids every once in a while. This is one of the rarely used options that can promote real closeness with your children.

However you decide to spend time with your child, there is one very important key point to remember: You should never do it unless you really want to. While you may not be in the mood to really play one day, but you get into it once you start, that's a little different. It's okay to start when you really need to be cleaning the kitchen or mowing the yard. When it's not okay to try to spend time with your child is if you really have no desire to at that time. If you won't get lost in the moment once you begin, and you won't be able to hide your irritation from your child. If this is the case, forcing yourself to spend time with your child will do more harm than good, since your child will be able to sense that you really don’t want to be doing it.

Anything that you gets you two to interact with each other. I'm not really sure how old your daughter is, but if you can make a memory from what you do or even make it a ritual, she will cherish the times that she spends with you. Try to make it something that she likes to do (it doesn't have to be expensive). Go to a specific park, or go for a walk (if she's the right size, carry her on your shoulders), go for ice cream once a week. Have a movie night. Also talk to her. Having that time, just the two of you, to talk about things can deepen your relationship with her. It's also your chance to be a good role model for her as well. Being the "dad" is also the greatest thing you can do for your daughter.

My dad didn't have a clue about little girl things so he took me along or let me help in things he did whenever he could. He was a teacher and had summers free so he did a lot of stuff around our house including construction projects. I spent a lot of time fetching nails, tools, and just watching. Some of our best conversations were on the way to or from the lumber yard or while nailing up plasterboard. One memorable trip I held onto an 8' piece of sewer pipe rolling down the highway for a half hour and discussing politics. I really miss those times. I learned a lot and got to know my dad really well. All you need to do is be in proximity and participate - it doesn't matter what the activity is.

Its not just the time you spend in her company, but how much time you are really with her. Try to be there without the distraction of being on the phone, computer, watching the television, or anything else where you have only half attention on her.
How young is she? If really little make sure you take time to feed her, and cuddle her. Not only will she learn the sound of your voice, but the sound of your heartbeat, and the scent of you.
If she's a little older then try these.
Try reading to her - lots of funny voices, sounds, and simple repetitive words.
Sing to her - she will love to hear your voice (and believe me you want to get in when they are at the least critical) and it doesn't matter to her if its not polished or in tune, her joy will be in the fact that her Daddy's there.
Simple clapping games and rhymes. There are so many simple rhymes, and you don't need many, they adore repetition. And any action ones - remember "5 little ducks went out one day"?
Older still? Take time out to go out, just you and your daughter. These don't have to cost a lot. A simple walk, a playground, playing ball - just whatever you can do together.
If you want to be a good dad, just be there. And if she gets used to that early, you can be there for her later on too.

Hey there,
What my husband does with our daughter is he picks one day a week where he devotes his whole day to just him and our little girl. Its a day where either I'm working or have lots of errands or something and for example today, while I'm at work for 8 hours he and my daughter made a list of things they are doing together for the day.
-Play a game
-Watch a movie
-Go for a bike ride
-Swim in the lake (we have a lake on our property)
-Go to the park (Park 2 min from house)
-Get pizza for lunch

They always have a great day together and spend some real quality time together, she just loves having her daddy days. I usually try and do the same once a week.

Spend time with her. If you can, have a father daughter night once a week where you two do something fun together, just the two of you. Even if it is just hanging out, or playing with her toys... Whatever she likes!

Good luck, sounds like you are trying, and that is wonderful!

I guess that all depends on how old your daughter is. Regardless of age, you can read books to or with her, take her to a playground if she's old enough. Take her to the zoo, or a duck pond and feed the ducks. There are so many things to do but sometimes just sitting on the floor and playing a game is all it takes. Just knowing daddy wants to spend time with her can make all the difference.

How old is she? My son is almost 2. My husband will take him to the playground or go out for a special treat (ice cream, a taco from Taco Bell, etc.) or even just watch an episode of Baby Einstein together. It doesn't matter what you do really, just as long as all your attention is focused on the two of you spending time together.

well first of all...realize that it is extremely hard to be the greatest friend and the dad all at the same time, now if you are asking what fun things you can do together? well, what does she like to do? what do you like to do? I would find something common that you both really like...or maybe try something new together, my little girl is six, and her and her daddy have date nights, she gets dressed up and he picks her up in the car with flowers, and they go to dinner and a movie, or chucki cheese it, they are the best of buddies

well, you spend a great deal of time with her, not only by playing with her, but also teaching her, telling her stories, singing to her when sleeping, things like that. i remember, when i was a kid, my father always bring me with him to my grandmother's house. and when he's at home, he usually cleans the house, and he makes me accompany him, and it's really funny, because he tell me stories when i was a child, like when i used to follow him at our garden with a broom in hand, and then he'll just hear me cry because he doesn't know i've eaten a chili, then he'll rush to the kitchen and put sugar in my mouth. moments like this will definitely strengthen your bond as father-daughter. by spending quality time with your daughter, when she grows up you can tell her stories about your adventure and time you spent together. just give her your undivided attention, and make sure to tell her always that you love her. =)
