My computer wont recognize my dvd disc???

Question

I have a few movies that I would like to burn to DVD. I went out and bought DVD-R disc's to do just that. Now, I put them into my disc drive but my computer doesn't even recognize that I have put a disc in there. When I put a reg disc (music cd) in there, it recognizes it but not the DVD. I thought maybe that it was my computer, even though it is brand new, so I put the disc into my sons computer (he has dvd burner also) but his computer didnt recognize the disc either?

The software I use for burning is Roxio - it came pre-installed in the computer (MyDVD9). I try to open the file and burn from there but Roxio also doesn't recognize the disc? It actually shows up that I don't have one in the drive. I keep getting this message: "Please insert a writable disc"

Are you 100% certain it is a DVD burner? You may just a a DVD player hence you will not be able to burn a DVD disk.

It does not sound like the disc was ever recorded. However, it may be just the drive and disc compatibility. Try the disc in another drive to see if the info is accessible.

im having the same problem, i really need help, roxio recognizes my disc and everything but when i click burn it asks me to put a balank or rewritable disk in the drive....
