in my face, jaw and neck. I have recently had dental treatment, but this came on a few months before. It is so painful and I just wondered what causes it and is it dangerous? Thanks.

I am assuming it is neuralgia. Had x-rays at the dentists last week and no infection was found.

Hi, I'm so sorry you've had this pain, I know how bad it is! The Neuralgic (spelling?) nerve travels up your face, through the eye and the pain when it plays up is agony. When I've had it no-one could find the cause, I took painkillers and tried ice packs, they didn't help but would be worth a try, eventualy it went. I would sugest you see the doctor to rule out any infection or trapped nerve. My doctor was telling me a few weeks ago that the new treatment involves chilli peppers, apparantly the pain of the peppers on the skin takes away the pain of the nerve! Hmm interesting!

my sympathy to you - i suffered for years, was told it was teeth went to dentist, was told it was sinus got treated for that eventually after many years of being in agony on a permanent basis i had an abscess treated and they found 2 cysts in my gum right at the edge of the main nerve so every time the cysts flared up they set off the pain..

Hi- If you have had a cold recently, try menthol steam vapour to clear your sinuses, could be related. My Daughter had similar problems recently and that was the problem.

it could be an infection in your jawbone (not nice)

your jaw has it's own seperate immune system (funny that)
if you have been having problems with your teeth/gums it may be that you have an infection that your dentist may not have noticed
