This is a genuine question, and i'd appreciate people not giving silly or judgemental answers please. Could JW's here tell me what sort of things happen during a meeting...do you sing lots of worship songs as in christian/etc churches. its just always made me wonder if a jw meeting follows the same type of principle...many thanks if there is music, what type is it ????

I went to the Kingdom Hall since I was a baby for over 30 years..In those 30 years..NOTHING changed..They sing a song at the start..then a "talk" on Sunday..Then a song, Then the WT studie..one reads , one asked the questions, and the people raise their hands to answer. Then they sing a song..(the music is played on a record player..maybe CD by now). They pray at the start and at the end..That is on Sundays..

No one discusses what the WT says..they ask the questions at the bottom..you get your answer from the WT.

They also have a ministry school on another day of the week..That is where you are assigned a short subject..and you pretend that the other person is the "house holder". ..and you pretend the House Holder is asking a question and you answer it in a short few minute talk.

There are no windows in the building..Children are expected to sit still and listen..If they don't they are taken into the bathroom and spanked or outside and spanked..Its not mandantory , but all seem to do it..

The meetings or talks are not full of excitment , they are quite boring. If the WTBS has a new rule for example..They will have a talk about why they can't do that anymore..and quote a scripture they have twisted a bit to fit that new rule. They don't call them rules..This is a new light from Jehovah..

They have no youth groups at all..The poor young people , if they don't have friends at the Kingdom Hall..then they are basically loners, because their parents don't let them assosiate with "worldy" people..

They do not have a nursery.

At our meetings, on Sunday they are opened with a song, then prayer, the public talk is a bible based talk on a subject, it lasts for 45 minutes then we have our watchtower study, and deals with a particular subject. All over the world, Jehovah's witnesses study the same Watchtower article. Then on Tuesday nights, that is the bookstudy, and we are currently studying the book of Revelation. There is no song, during the Tuesday night meeting and it lasts for only an hour. Now on Thursday night, there is the Theocratic Ministry School where different ones have been assigned Bible subjects to give a sermon about and they each have a point of counsel to work on and a time limit. That meeting lasts for about 45 minutes then after that is the Service meeting and it deals with our ministry, about presentations and how to conduct Bible studies. Sometimes, during the service meeting we have a local needs part that deals with something the congregation needs help with. The songs are all Bible based, some of them are scriptures placed to music. we sing two songs on sunday, and Thursday.

You go to the kingdom hall 3 times a week. Theres not much singing, you have to study two diff magazines a week, don't remember what there called. I am an ex Jehovah's Witness, I will say they have good morals. But you should know as a Jehovahs Witness you should not be on this web site. Also no Disney movies. And no holidays what so ever not even birth days. Or any music other then the songs you sing their. No reality tv, or many cartoons. And nothing with any kind of magic what so ever. I am not judging you but really think about it.

I am one of Jehovah's witnesses. Yes, we do sing songs. One song as the meeting starts and one between (if there are two meetings together) and one at the end. Our music is very beautiful, some is classical sounding, some are waltzes. Some have a fast pace to them and some are slow.

Our meetings start out with a song and then a prayer to Jehovah. Then at the end, after the last song another prayer. Everyone brings their own Bible and song book to each meeting. They are encouraged to use the Bible by the speaker on the platform. Unlike other religions, we do not have shouting, do not speak in tongues or "get the holy ghost", our meetings are very calm, Bible based discussions. Everyone there is friendly. We also do not pass the collection plate or take any donations up. If you wish to contribute there is a discreet box at the back of the hall that someone may drop funds into.

Each congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses schedules five meetings each week, generally on three different days. While meetings at the Kingdom Hall begin and end with song and prayer, the majority of the meeting is educational and encouraging in nature (rather than ritualistic). Nearly every person in the audience has a bible in his hand with which to follow the Scriptures used in each part.

Most meeting parts are uniform in all 100,000 congregations around the world, so that almost any Witness can walk into any congregation and be prepared for what material will be discussed during those lessons.

Twice a year, each congregation is also scheduled for two larger assemblies and one very large convention.

Lou Lou - Jehovah's Witnesses have three meetings a week.
On Sunday there is a public talk on some specific subject relating to life, the bible etc. This is followed by a discussion of an article from the Watchtower magazine. One evening in the week there is the "school" and "service meeting" focusing on general topics such as improving the ministry work etc. On another evening of the week a "Book Study" is held, usually in a private home to discuss a current publication.
Each meeting apart from the Book Study begind and ends with song (from their own song book) and prayer, the book study beginning and ending only with prayer. There is nobody in fancy dress or given a posh name. There are no collection and everybody is welcome to attend. If you seriously want to know why the world is in such a mess and what Jehovah intends to do abut it I urge you to get in touch with them - they don't bite. Or if I can help further e.mail me at alan.wright57948@btinternet.com

Hi Lou-Lou, They have bible study meetings usually weekly at nominated houses. Usually prayer and discussion of Bible topics. There hymns at meetings held in Kingdom Halls ( they are not very good tunes) And at the regional assemblies - usually held at a local football stadium) there are talks and bible stories acted out. But to repeat, I find the music very bland - I am not a JW, but I am interested in anyone's religion and how it is practiced

It's kinda like a school class except that they pray at the begining and the end and sing usually 3 songs. They have a question and answer section where members can put their hands up and answer bible questions.

I'll give you this advice though even though they seem super friendly there is a dark side to them so ber very careful of joining the group. It is difficult to leave once converted!

If you do join make sure you secretly keep your individuality and ability to criticaly think because you will go through subtle training to think only about the watchtower society!

They are public meetings and you are welcome to go see for yourself.

Starts with a greeting, then an opening prayer.
Next is the talk/talks or programs. A intermediate song when there are two meetings back to back. Then a closing song and prayer.

No contribution tray passed around
No chorus. No idols. No flags.
No politics or endorsements of worldly leaders.
No screaming and dancing in the walkways and all that.

Go to a few. no obligation to return.
