I was just diagnosed today with strep throat. I have had symptons for 3 days now and just got on antibiotics today. I have a 2-year-old son and I'm worried about him getting sick from me. He hasn't had a fever, and I can't really check to see if his throat is red (he won't let me) but he has had diarrhea twice today. Could it be related to strep? I'm wondering if I should take him to the ER since I can't get him into the doctor's office until next week. Thanks for any advice. God bless.

My family dr says you can only diagnose strep throat from a swab test.

My son was about 18 months old when he was throwing up and had a diahhrea. It was a weekend, so we took him to outpatients at the hospital. He still had his soother at the time, which sometimes left a little rash around his mouth from the drools. As soon as we walked into the dr's office, he said, "well i can see from the rash around his mouth he has strep throat. Here's some antibiotics."
Diahhrea worsened..he got sicker. Two days later, took him to his family dr who was furious that the doc in the hospital never even tested him for strep, just looked in his throat. He did not have it. And the antibiotics made his diahhrea worse, he ended up with a wicked bad rash on his bum...lost about four lbs(he didn't have it to lose), before he started to come around a week later. VERY SCARY.

Long winded answer, I know, but make sure they swab your sons throat to be tested to be sure it's strep.

Good luck with this. Hope you feel better soon.

BRAT diet made my son better.
BRAT =
B-bananas
R-rice
A-applesauce
T-toast

Plain rice, and dry toast. Offer plenty of water and pedialyte with diahhrea. You can mash the bananas and spread it on the toast.
This is what cured my son. Two days on only this diet and he'll be all better. I promise.

YES. And don't let any doctor tell you it isn't. Strep can actually present in children in many different ways. From no sore throat at all, to diarrhea and vomiting, to no vomiting, to no symptoms until there's a rash(Scarlet fever) and a high fever. I've had Nurse Practitioner tell me today because my son has diarrhea and only a slightly scratchy throat, that it's a virus not strep, despite him having EVERY other sign of Strep including a very faint Scarlet Fever like rash. I've been a mom for 25 years. I have 25 years of Strep experience. I've experienced it, not only as a Mom, but personally, myself, present in a myriad of ways and diarrhea is NOT unusual with strep. Not typical, but NOT unusual. Longer than she's had any kind of medical education/training. I KNOW strep when I see it and my son has strep. She's wrong and I'm seeking another opinion tomorrow. Be ware of any Medical Practitioner who only goes by the text books. They will misdiagnose a good portion of their patients.

Sounds like you have a cold, or you have allergies. Where I live, fall is a season for allergies to different out door plants and molds. If you are congested, it is best to drink lots of water. You can buy decongestants at the pharmacy. You have to drink lots of water when you take them also. So, start drinking water and give your dog a fresh bowl of it too! You could also eat some fruit to keep up your potassium levels, like bananas and cantalope. Eating fresh pineapple is great for a cold. Gatorade will help keep your electrolytes stable. The fruit and the Gatorade is suggested 'cuz of peeing a lot. Also, good for sweating, or any fluid loss. If you get a fever &/or get a bad headache for 3 days or more, you might want to go to the doctor. You might have more than a cold or allergies. You might have strep throat, a sinus infection or even swine flu. I have never heard of a dog growling because it wanted to be stroked.

I don't think diarreah comes necessarily with strep throat. The usual symptoms are vomiting (because his throat is irritated), cough, fever, crankiness. If the strep throat came after a virus infection, then diarreah might be due to that stomach bug but then you would have had diarreah too. To me it seems like if he doesn't have your symtoms, it might be something else - a virus (different form what you have) or something that he ate. Just watch him and see if anything changes, watch his general disposition too - if he is more prone to crying or tantrums - and abstain from kissing and eating from his food. Wash your hands often too. I'm sure you know those things, I just wanted to reassure you that they work as a preventive measure agaist his catching the infection from you.

if he has diarrhea give him a little bit of lemonade. no, early signs of strep throat are not diarrhea, unless you mean diarrhea of the mouth (also known as "talking too much") and then that would be laryngitis.

Know the asteroid wellhead tonsil stones them for many years and it's been title not eventually.

Best decision I've ever made! I was shocked by the way of getting out the stones out. It was so easy, but more importantly, painless. I really liked the little trick he had for preventing gag reflex. He have one happy customer here.

I believe that yes it could be. I remember when my own kids were that age and I had to pay attention to their body language to tell what was going on with them at times. I say take him to the ER and let them take a look just to be on the safe side. Hope this helped.
