i got limewire a few weeks ago and although i think nothing is wrong my mum cant get into her e-mail. could limewire be responsible? how do i scan limewire files for viruses. i dont know where they are located on my comp to do so. please if you could help at all i would be grateful. hm

Right click on Limewire icon, select scan. It could be that the software is not compatible with your computer, or maybe another type of software you are running

In short, Limewire will not directly slow your computer down. However, it does provide a nice open portal for all viruses and other malicious software. After all, how can you be sure the file you're downloading is what it's meant to be?
PC slowdown is usually a result of a combination of things, such as:
* Free space on hard drive - check the drive is not too ful. If it is, do a cleanup exercise and remove/burn to disc anything which can be deleted.
* Defrag the drive. Fragmentation is the biggest cause of pc slowdown.
* Clear out all temporary internet files and cookies. The more temp files, the slower your internet experience gets (mostly applicable to internet explorer.)
Also worth running a full spyware and virus scan. You will find problems with performance when spyware, for example, is present on the computer. They tend to clog up your internet connection.

Many of the files on Limewire are viruses I found when using it. I suggest swapping to Emule :)
Apart from that make sure your anti-virus software is up-to-date and scan your computer. Also run checks for spyware and adware using programs like Spybot and Ad-aware.

did you know that when you 'shut down' limewire it doesn't completely shutdown? check task manager after you have shut it down and you will see that it is still running, check your task bar, you will see the limewire icon, right click it and then exit, then it will shut down completely. most of those above had stated that limewire is full of malware and viruses, i agree with all of them, when you download a file from limewire, right click it and scan it, if anything is found then delete the file completely, most p to p networks are dangerous, be careful. good luck.

First of all u have to do is uninstall limewire from ur pc, 'coz i was having the same problem of slowdown of speed and limewire is definately going to bring viruses in ur pc. After U uninstall it completely, scan ur pc with McAfee antivirus software. Ur problem will be solved. Take Care.

I use limewire with no problems. What you have to do is goto tools/options. From there you can select where you want to store downloads. Even more importantly use the menu on the left and go through every box-make sure sharing/chat is disabled. Use some common sense when you go through it. DO NOT download any exec. files, stick to music. Install DE-virus-reinstall. Good luck.

i have limewire on my computer but it doesnt slow it down!
My mates laptop slowed down as soon as they downloaded limewire, so it may be the reason!
