Hi, I have just got a credit card last week and I bought something from Topman on the Wednesday, and took it back the next day, my card doesn't offer internet banking, so I called today to ask if the money had been refunded and they said yes it went through on Thursday but the balances don't seem to add up, and I also thought a crdit card refund never went through straight away??

I just called them and they said the refund goes through instantly, so do you think it has been authorised but the money is yet to be added them to my funds?

I would probably give it another 3 to 4 business days, then check again. It always seems like money is debited from credit cards much faster than it is credited back.

However, the bottom line will be when you receive your monthly statement, and I would wager that if you just received the card, at the end of your first billing cyle, your bill will show the amount you charged, plus the amount of the refund, and the final amount should be correct.

You should be fine. Just be sure to keep your charged, and refunded receipts, just in case.

Refunds can take up to 72 hours, depending on how closely related your bank is to the store's bank. I've seen them come though the next day, as well.

If you balance doesn't make sense (which you should be checking regularly, anwyays) follow up. Ask for a faxed statement, or get one from the brick-and-mortar bank.

You may have two types of balances, though. There will be the absolute amount you have in the account, and another number which is what you have available. For instance, sometimes if you send in a check that's over $100. They will put the first $100 immediately towards your balance, but the remainder will be kept aside until the check for-sure clears.

Also, sometimes if a store rings through a transaction, and "voids" it the same day, your real balance will be what it should be, but the funds from this transaction will still be "held" from you for a day or two, which gives you your "available funds" or some other like-meaning name.

if you were refunded from the seller , then as long as the seller takes to submit the refund order.

but if you are trying to negate a sale made in bad faith then many weeks may pass before the credit card company will come through

No it usually takes 48 hours (at least) to refund onto your card.
But-
It depends on the bank. Phone them and ask them.
I would also suggest to sign up for Internet banking, as is a brilliant way of managing your account.
(I assume your on-line as your on y-answers)

Also

Beware of the banks, they mess things up quite frequently so keep an eye on their antics.

Bank of America doesn't post on weekends at all. So even if it was issued, it won't post until either early Monday morning or Monday night. No BOA accounts, credit, checking, etc. are posted to on the weekends.
