Catholics pray to her and seek guidance and intercession from her to God. This is a form of worship.'Venerate' or whatever word you want to use doesn't change the fact that Catholics ask Mary to intercede with God for them. This is a form of worship. Mary is dead, she has no power, never did. She can not hear you and can not intercede for you. Believing as though she can is worship.

Any answers please?

You say that "seeking guidance and intercession" is a form of worship.

You say the word "veneration" doesn't change the fact that we ask her to intercede. Again you state "this is a form of worship."

You say she is dead. She cannot hear you and cannot intercede. Believing so is worship.

Where do you get your power and authority to make these claims? Don't say the scripture because there are multiple scriptures to backup intercession.

Also...if you are a Christian, why would you think that Mary is dead? Don't you believe in life after death? That is part of the whole belief in the resurrection.

We ask Mary and the Saints to pray for us, I also ask family members and friends to pray for me. There is nothing wrong with this, and it is not unbiblical in any way.

The problem is that generally only one definition of worship is used in English despite the fact that there are other definitions or levels. These different levels are more accurately defined in Greek:

λατρια (latria): the adoration due only to God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit
δουλια (dulia): the respect and honour given to the angels and canonized saints
υπερδουλια (hyperdulia): a higher honour given to Mary because of her special role in God plan of salvation .

Dulia and hyperdulia are almost the same, but they are completely different from latria. If latria were applied to anyone or anything other than God, it would be idolatry. Therefore, Catholics never apply latria worship to anyone or anything other than God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Please do not assume you know, or understand Catholicism based on outside observation. I was told once by a Baptist that when I kneeled down to put presents under the Christmas tree that I was worshiping the tree. Can we all agree that is ridiculous...I certainly know who I worship and it's not a tree...nor is it Mary.

But that is the same logic you are using to accuse Catholics of worshiping Mary and it's just plain wrong.

Word!

Um, stef423... Look back over what you wrote. "Mary is part of the holy trinity"
Let's see here. Father, Son, Holy Spirit ... and Mary. Yeah, that's three. Besides, where in the Bible does it say anything about a female part of the Holy Trinity - much less specify that part to be Mary?
And you seem to be going with the common "God as a vending machine" belief. Let's see how we can work with this analogy, OK? If you ask God by yourself, Him being picky and all, it's like you put a wrinkled dollar bill in the machine. Ooops, sorry, it got spit back out. Doesn't work. But ask through Mary, and it's like you used a new, fresh dollar bill. Voila! A bottle of Coke!
Sorry, but that's not how God works.
Besides, why would you want a God who is less nice that a HUMAN for crying out loud? God is perfection! Mary isn't better than God in ANY way!

And I also disagree with your last statement - I for one consider myself VERY blessed. Heck, I'm breathing. And I have a sneaking suspicion that Mary might not have considered herself blessed, at least not at first. It can't have been fun to be a pregnant teen girl with no husband back then, although it's mainly accepted these days.

One last point - Mary wasn't given the gift of the baby Jesus. She was merely the tool God used to bring Jesus to THE WORLD. So, we are ALL blessed because Jesus came FOR ALL OF US.

so when you ask your pastor, family member or friend to pray for you, which is intercession because from your point you should have just asked jesus, do you worship that person? it is the same premise. do you ask your pastor for advice or guidance?maybe you should stop worshipping him. truth is mary is more alive than anyone here on this earth the same as the saints. did the blessed mother not play a pivotal role at cana? would this role not indicate the special role of mary? all catholics teach about the blessed mother leads us to jesus. here are some sites should you be genuinely interested in the blessed mothers true role in the catholic church, not what you have been told by non catholics with agendas and bias.

more importantly the bible. a catechism will also help. god bless.

for SL one mediator.........what about jesus asking us to be one in faith, or is 28 000+ variations holding fast to his command, or how about "do this remembrance of me" do protestants not get it? or are you being selective and lacking context?

No because I freely admit I worship Jesus. In fact I often say I worship you Jesus. So kind if hard for it not to be worship. As to Catholics worshiping Mary. Only you and God know what is in your heart. If you are crossing the line He will deal with you. He is the judge so I will leave the judging to Him.

Mary is the mother of Jesus. She is favored by God. Asking, and not worshipping are two different things. I truly love the story about Mary, and Jesus. It is my favorite in the Bible. She also did the most humanly impossible act of watching her son being nailed to the cross. (Without trying to fight.) She prayed to God for guidance instead of putting up any fight. Because she knew it was God's will that this was happening. However, it was still painful to her to see this. She is a very important person to God. Praying to her and asking for God's guidance, there isn't anything wrong in that.
Hail Mary,
Full of Grace,
The Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou among women,
and blessed is the fruit
of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary,
Mother of God,
pray for us sinners now,
and at the hour of death.
Amen.

Catholics believe in Mary because she was given a gift from God which was the baby Jesus. She is the female part of the holy trinity. If you have a favor to ask God, you just ask Mary, who is nicer anyways, and she will ask God for you. Mary is blessed, which is a lot more than you can say for the rest of the world.

Pagans worshiped The Mother. Christians worshiped God and Jesus. Roman Christians (Catholics) worshiped Jesus and God. Roman Christians wanted more members ($) and less pagans. Roman Christians allowed the pagans to worship "The Mother" in the form of "Mother Mary" and brought them (and their $) into the fold.
