There are professional and semi-professional careers available at the onshore gas compression where I worked some years ago.
The work involves little stress,excellent working conditions and superb salary.

I wouldn't bother with the submarine yard: more cutbacks expected. You could branch out into tourism in the Lakes, but then you'd have to commute. The gas or windfarm industries might be better.

Am I the only person with a fond view of Barrow? My aunts and uncles all still live there and I love going up to see them. Some of the nicest folk in Britain, even if it is the "cul-de-sac of the North"
