Americans are so hypocritical, how many people except Native American aren’t immigrants. Your folks got in, killed the Indians, took their land and then made laws to keep others out. Bravo.

If you really want to stop illegal immigration in your countries, then your government should get involved in developing the economies of those countries where the "illegals" come from, instead of making policies that take advantage of those countries in the guise of helping

As long as the economic divide between countries exist, you will always have illegal immigration and God forbid, terrorism.

When you keep others out, what you’re doing is keeping yourself in.

As usual, most people react to this question emotionally. If the laws that are currently in place were enforced and that there was a way to check either the social security or green card number for validity to the person filling out the I-9 form, that is to be filled out upon being hired, this would help. This would, also, do away with the excuse of employers claiming "they did not know the number was invalid".
The immigration policy should be partly based on family connection and other considerations-ie education, work skills, and lack of criminal history, for example.

The fence should be built, but a bigger problem is visa overstays. Many of the illegal immigrants have come into the country legally and have chosen not to leave when they are supposed to. Something like 15 out of the 19 hijackers from 9/11 entered the country legally and overstayed their visas.

So two things are needed:
1-A sufficient number of border patrol agents securing the border with the help of a sturdy fence.

2-A program that will keep track of who is in the country on a visa and when they are supposed to leave or if they have overstayed their visa.

The real issue here is the incompetence of Government in making the application process faster and less restrictive. It would then be beneficial to apply properly than come into the US illegally. We will always have millions of illegal peoples here illegally until we have a realistic and enforced immigration policy.

You don't need to be legal to enjoy the lifestyle of America, Governments are not fair or honest when it comes to immigration. In fact they are unfair to their own born citizens in deporting their parents.

The whole process takes too long and is unfair and restrictive to most normal people that try to come here legally, even mothers or Fathers of young USA Citizens cannot come legally until their children are 21 yrs old, how fair is that? it is certainly unfair to children born in the USA to have their parents deported.

If the immigration system was faster, less exclusive and more understanding, people would make sure that they would apply properly as there would be no reason to try to come illegally. As it stands now they have little to lose that’s why there are 20 million illegal people’s contributing to the economy in the form of sales tax and doing the menial jobs that Americans will never do.

I know people that became millionaires whilst working illegal in the USA over many years, they are still there today. The process is too laborious to bother applying for legal status, who needs the funds off the Government anyway, certainly not hard working people.

Some foolish people may say keep immigrants out don't make it too easy for them. Hey it already is easy, the illegal people’s are going to come, are coming and will always come to the USA; until the immigration application process; is fixed by the Government.

Look at the Millions of illegal people’s from all over the world that were allowed to become citizens under the Clinton Amnesty in 2001 that was first introduced by G H Bush. Look at the millions of illegal people’s that are soon to be put on a roadway to citizenship by G W Bush.

It is an absolute tragedy that politicians hoodwink themselves into believing that this is the best way to solve the immigration problems of the USA. Every few years have an amnesty and let several Million illegal people’s become legal citizens.

What does this say to people wanting to migrate into the USA? it says the fast track way to enter the USA to set up a new life is to AVOID the stretched out exclusive, unreliable and exasperating application process at all costs; fly there, stay there, work, wait a few years and then get my guaranteed amnesty place in a few years time.

Until Government immigration policy is changed, it will always be better for most immigrants to come to the USA through the Back Door to Guarantee their citizenship sooner rather than later.

I'm against all forms of illegal immigration. I would favor more reasonable laws and practices governing legal immigration.

I don't see amnesty as a potentially successful approach, but if illegal immigrants have worked in honest occupations and obeyed other laws I would favor helping them have reasonable access to legalization.

My grandparents were all immigrants. They came from what is now Poland, from Russia and from Austria. I could not be here and could not exist without immigration. So I favor a reasonable approach as was available to my families.

Incidentally, I like Hispanic people. I have no objection to allowing them reasonable access to legal immigration. I also like Asian people and feel the same about them.

All immigrants should be encouraged to become proficient in English as spoken in this country.

It is worth considering whether illegals are here either because the government didn't secure the borders and enforce laws, or because Americans are continuing to accept illegals and give them opportunities. If it were both illegal and unacceptable to hire illegal immigrants there wouldn't be any in the country irregardless of the presence of a border fence. Americans wouldn't hire them, they would not find any opportunities and would go home and tell their friends not to come here. However, since an infinite flow of illegals are invading America this must mean that either 1) Americans want them here and are giving them jobs and opportunities or 2) Americans want cheap food and products and don't want to stop buying from companies that hire illegals.

Are these people basing their choice to come here simply because the government didn't build a fence, or rather because they know Americans will give them opportunities? If American society truly did not want illegals here then a fence wouldn't even be necessary.

Large-scale immigration has been a problem for many western countries as their own culture and ways of life are disappearing, and unless something big happens, it isn't going to be solved.
'Power corrupts, and absolute power corrupts absolutely' With political perfectness and multiculturalism in place, no 'civilized' country can deny entry to any person without giving a ton of reasons. Lobby groups will lobby the government to allow anybody to come in. Anyone who speaks out against it is a racist. Makes you wonder what happened to 'Freedom of speech' doesn't it?

Build an electric wired brick fence then build another fence about a football field behind that wall take every sex offender and place them inbetween the walls and if Maria decides to jump that wall and makes it past the "shock" then i guess if maria is willing to be butt plugged she is more the deserving to be a citizen. I think if maria is bringing little alicia her 5 her old or say 13 old im almost certain she would not risked letting her little daughter get plugged. Jose wouldnt want to be plugged either so ya take every sex offender place them inbetween both walls and let them deal with the illegals haha

germany had an effective wall that very few people were able to successfully cross. Why is it so hard for us to do it? once the flow of illegal immigrants has been stemmed, the battle is halfway won. Then we just need to figure out what to do with the ones that are already here.
