I have a memory of one day walking by a used bookstore, and seeing a HUGE white fluffy dog. It seemed bigger than a bear... like, much, much bigger. I remember noting that he was so big that he could barely find a comfortable position to lie down in although the bookstore was decently sized.

It was so big that when I saw it, I thought I couldn't possibly be seeing what I thought I was seeing... that maybe I was going crazy.

And now, haunted by this memory, I've been looking all over the internet to figure out what that dog was. It didn't look like these pictures of Mastiffs and St Bernards and Irish Wolfhounds that I'm seeing. It was fluffy, white, and had a friendly smiley kinda face. It looked very proportional... not strangely tall or skinny or fat anything.

Am I going crazy?? Does such a dog exist? What did I see???

Were you a kid? Things look bigger when YOU are smaller! I remember my mother's Cocker Spaniel to be the size of an Irish Setter -- but I was a toddler!

You probably saw a Great Pyrenees, a BIG one. Gorgeous dogs!

A few breeds come to mind. Like many mentioned here the great pyrenesese I was also thinking it could have been a Komondor, or even maybe a Samoyed.

It sounds like a Great Pyreneese

which basically looks like a white Newfoundland, which to me, resembles a bear.

Sorry, if you ever saw a bear you wouldn't think this dog was all that big.

Most likely the Great Pyrenese

If it is really buggin' you as these things sometimes do. Why not go the way of tracing the previous owners of the Shop?

Yes, those dogs exist. The nearest I am thinking to what you described would be a Samoyed.

Here are some links that i just found for you, be them good or not, I only really glanced at, sorry -

I would still tend to think it was a chuvach,as a kid I used to be amazed by their size. I still am. Try this one out too.

Yes...you are going crazy and desperately need new pair of spectacles. From the fur I can assume it was a samoyed, but never the size of bear. But if you mean "bear" is honey bear, maybe yes, it was samoyed.
