That's so Easy

Just go to Windows Movie maker (Inbuilt companant of windows XP) in Start>All programs
And add the pictures you want to Add in the movie............and you can add an audio file too to have music run in the background and then choose the file format and Quality and save

Windows Xp has and in built Movie Maker
You can try that, so you can surf on the net for some many free software which are avialable

I do not know of any free applications to download or some thing but here are some you would have already got to your laptop. Windows film Maker Roxio i know there are some more however I are not able to feel of the names right now. Jem

you can use windows movie maker. since it comes with windows it might make things easier (wont have to find where to purchase product.)

You could try muvee,
but be warned, you could lose your human creativity as the computer does almost everything for you. I tried and feel less human for using it.
