Okay, so my family and I are going on a vacation at the end of July, and we have to leave our dog at home. We have food and water dispensers enough to last two weeks. Then thing is, it gets really hot where we live; 100+ weather... What can we do to keep him cool while we're gone? None of our neighbors can check on him; He's likely to try to bite them. I'm really worried about my doggie :(

Your best bet will be to call around locally and try to find a boarding kennel that will handle a dog with aggression issues. Veterinarians also board and sometimes are better equipped to handle dogs with issues, as they can sedate if neccessary. Some shelters board and may have facilities where the dog's run can be washed and he can be fed and watered without someone ever coming in with him-- a split run with a gate in the middle (controlled from outside). One of our local shelters does this. My parents owned a boarding kennel when I was a kid, and I know we took aggression cases. It did cost a bit more. If the dog is safe in a boarding facility, not only will you not need to worry about him being kept cool (and safe from heatstroke), but you'll also know that if an unforseen health issue arises, there will be someone to take him for treatment. You didn't say, but is this an outdoor dog? I'm asking because I was wondering how you were going to deal with 2 weeks of feces and urine inside your home while you're away. If it is a housepet, just this aspect alone could potentially get you reported to the humane society for neglect/ abandonment if someone would happen to see in your home who didn't know the situation. Dogs aren't real good on that stay at home alone thing. If he's an outdoor dog, I would worry about several things while you're gone. If he's bored and dumps the water dispenser, the poor guy's out of luck for water in 100 degree weather. You also won't be around to protect him from people coming onto your property and teasing him or letting him out of his pen. If you have nearby neighbors, they will be annoyed if he's bored and lonely and starts constant barking. He's used to you being around and seeing him daily, and dogs react poorly when the routine changes. Teens in gangs who own fighting dogs often steal dogs kept outdoors to throw in with their fighting dogs to "spar" with. They are usually killed in the process. A gal in our rescue group had this happen to a dog she kept in her fenced yard while she was at work during the day. Luckily her dog survived and escaped, but was seriously injured. I think these worries would really put a damper for me on enjoying a vaccation. A good boarding facility will make sure that your buddy is safe and healthy when you arrive home, and you can relax and enjy your trip!

Well I hate to tell you this but no dog should be left alone for two whole weeks!!!! And in 100 degree weather!!! This is classified as animal cruelty!!! If your neighbors can not help because of the dog's aggression, what about a family member? Maybe your family can board the dog somewhere. Never, never would I leave my dogs alone for one week, let alone two!!!! If your family does this to this poor dog, how can everyone enjoy a vacation? And don't be surprised when you return that the dog is gone or dead. If you are a child, please try to talk some sense into your parents!!!

it's cruel to leave your dog for 2 weeks without anyone checking on him. even though you think the food and water dispenser may last 2 weeks, how would you like to drink water that's been left out for 2 weeks. that was will become stale and could mold. yuck. find a boarding facitliy and let them know he's aggressive. or better yet find a training facility that can work on his aggression issues and you follow through with their reccomendations when you get home. there are many training facilities that have 2 week programs and the dog's stay there. then you won't have this problem next time, your neighbors can safely check on your dog, or you can find a housesitter.

Figure out something, but dont leave him outside in 100 degree weather. Even with water, that would make him sick. I would try to find a border or dog sitter. Get a muzzle if you have to to board him or have someone watch him. Or call around for a dog sitter that knows how to handle aggressive dogs.

If you have animals you have to look after them. And leaving them home alone whilst you go on holidays is not exactly looking after the welfare of the dog. Put the poor thing into a boarding kennel. I would never ever leave a pet that long.He may fret, he may get out, he may get sick, then what?
If you can't afford it then get rid of him...Dog lover.

Maybe leave a muzzle for someone to take care of him and they can try and put it on...=/ or leave it with a dog sitter place they put him in a cage and feed him and stuff...at least he wont bite somebody

Send it to Dog School and leave him there and check up on the phone every once and awhile. That's what my BF did when she went on a trip. My dog is really gentle, so we don't worry about that...

You should never leave an animal alone like that. He should be kept at a professional boarding facility. They are trained to handle even tough animals and you will know he is safe and well.
