Try to have an Adobe Acrobat Distiller. This software will be installed in Microsoft Office and will also be available for other softwares. It has additional features like adding watermark, appending other documents, etc.

Try the free and M$-Office compatible Open Office from:
Just make sure that if you want others to be able to view the documents using M$-Office Word, save them using "Save as..." in the .doc format, instead of the default .odt format.
Or use the built-in PDF creation feature.
Included: Writer (Word), Calc (Excel), Impress (PowerPoint), Base (Access), Draw (M$-Paint) and Math

go and download cutepdf. you can then use office word, select file > print > select cutepdf > click print.
or if you want, download Sun's Open Office which is similar to microsoft office but free, OpenOffice.org
where you can have built-in selection to save as pdf file. good for resumes.
