I totally understand! At my dialysis clinic we have some real doozies. Not as bad as some other clinics, but still. Here's the way I look at it. I divide my patients into two groups: the crazies and the regular folks. When people are crazy, they say things, they whine, they even yell, but I know they're only doing it because they are crazy. They have no control.

For the normal people, they have NO right to treat any of us poorly. They have every right to be frustrated, angry, sad, etc., but they DO NOT have the right to take it out on us! Talk to your manager about the clinic policies for appropriate patient behavior. It should fall under the Rights and Responsibilities for Patients (at least that's where it does for our clinic). If a normal patient is acting inappropriately, we call them on it. We tell them to stop. If they do not stop, we tell them that if they do not stop we will end their treatment and send them home. If they still don't stop, we don't even have to get the nurse's permission, we just rinse them back and pull their needles. They are done. The charge nurse and manager are notified of the incident, and repeat offenses lead to the possibility of the patient being permanently discharged from our facility and they'll have to find another clinic.

You don't need to cry. You shouldn't get used to it. Your patients will figure out really quick not to treat you poorly if there are consequences for their actions. Not being able to dialyze tends to get peoples' attention. And if your market is anything like mine, they can't afford to be losing technicians due to factors that are within their control.

Stand up for yourself! If other people don't mind being abused, that's their deal. You don't have to let the abuse continue.

Take a deeeeeeppp breath and exhale. Those "mean" patients are not dealing with the fact that they have to be hooked up to a machine that will cleanse their blood because their bodies have "failed them".
It is not a personal attack against YOU! They are frightened at the prospect of living out the rest of their lives hooked to a machine, or angry because of it and possibly the things they've done to cause it. Striking out at you or whomever else they encounter is a defense mechanism.

Make eye contact. Ask them how they are doing, and give them as many encouraging words as you can. Keep your sense of humor- laughter is the best medecine! And there is nothing wrong with telling "Mr Jones" that he is out of line when he says something ignorant.

You are performing an increasingly difficult job with compassion and intelligence. Do not forget why you took the job in the first place. Enjoy the patients that are grateful for what you do, and try your best to reach the ones that are mean. They need you twice as much!

Kudo's to you!

nicely from a females attitude maximum women do it using fact the jerks are in many situations commonly used and or have fairly some buddies. i'm no longer a sort of girls, i'm extremely joyful to tell you that there are females obtainable that do choose for the stable men and that i'm one among them. I constantly settled for the stable guy, you recognize what you're transforming into with a robust guy, and that's so lots greater skill than the jerky commonly used guy. (i'm hoping it truly is sensible?) Hod up there is often somebody obtainable, and the jerks constantly finally end up fat devoid of interest, so the comic tale is on them!

Unfortunatley some people are just mean especially when they are in the situation they are in. The best thing to do is to continue to be nice back, they are probably scared and angry inside about their predicament and so they take it out on you. Don't take it personally, just try to remember that they are the ones that are sick and need help and that they need care. If it is to much for you to handle perhaps you may want to look into another line of work; becuase you will have to deal with patients like that no matter what.

You have to understand that these people are sick, and people who are dieing(sick) generally aren't too happy and that's a part of life. This applies to everyone no matter how they think they will be when it happens.

You have to understand this and learn to be compassionate to those who are angry and ill. Very difficult task, but once you feel the compassion, things will no longer bother you even when they say something mean.

i noticed since my childhood,
anyone who is weak in something, when they work it out,
it becomes their real strength,,

insult is a relative term, need to understand people, perception and learn how to relax and keep going ,,

may be, you will become an expert in predicting your patients behavior sometime and skilled to avoid bad experiences.

But it takes time, gotto be cool till then,

in the worst, case, if it really doesn't seem suitable, look for a diff career. But after giving it a tough & honest try

Good luck
