I was eligible for a free upgrade to Windows Vista Home Basic and recently received the software to download it onto my laptop computer. I currently have Windows XP Home Edition. My question is, is it worth it to download Vista Home Basic, and if I do download it and I don't like it, will I be able to go back to XP? Help me please!!!

I would wait on installing Windows Vista Home Basic into your Windows XP laptop. At the moment, there are so many software and hardware that is uncompatible with the new Vista operating system. I recommended keeping Windows XP until Windows Vista plays catch up with software vendors and when they release the Service Patch 1 for Vista which should be by the end of the year.

Vista requires a really good graphics card as well as enough memory. I recommended at least 1 to 2 gigabytes of ram memory for your laptop or desktop.

I have Windows Vista Home Basic It's cool but theirs some files and programs that you can't download because they're not compatible with Vista. I'm not going to say it sucks or is great but if I was you I would just wait until Windows Vista upgrades. I don't know about getting back XP if you do get Vista but you never know you might. Good luck!

I have Windows Vista Home Premium, it came with my computer when I bought it, it's pretty awesome, I'm also aware of Vista Basic too. although I'd have to say I like Windows XP much better. Yes Vista does have some glitches in it still but so did vista when it 1st came out, no one liked it @ 1st & now a lot more people do. Vista has excellent security features a lot more than XP does, so yes I would say it's worth it to switch.

There would be no reason for you to switch back, it's to much of a hassle & you'll learn to love Vista, just like you learned to love XP

Are you sure you have a licensed version of Vista? If you don't, then it will stop most of its functionality in 30 days.

If you do install it, you can uninstall it and it will go back to your XP Home Edition.

Personally, I would avoid the Vista Home Basic. I installed it and ended up upgrading it to Vista Ultimate for a hefty price.

as long as you know how to boot your laptop into DOS mode and know how to format your C drive. then it's fine to try vista.
in my personal experience, i don't really like vista, coz all programs run not as fast as under WinXP. but if you would like to try vista, just go ahead after you learn how to format and reinstall a WinXP system. good luck!
