One really don't understand why he was Knighted. He is hated by billions and another billion deslike him. Perhaps he deserves that for hiding 10 years like a coward. They say: FREEDOM OF SPEECH

British historian David Irving has been found guilty of denying the Holocaust of European Jewry and sentenced to three years in prison. NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH.

What Britian decided was their internal decision and one can say that they had all the rigt to make that decision. However, in the atmosphere of these days where a lot of religious sensitivities exist and with the increased tensions, it was not a very wise thing to do. Also it is against the diplomatic ettiquette of a country. Moreover, somebody who's literary accumen is just that he has ridiculed one religion (and done it continuously and with this sole purpose), what kind of literary achievement or services does he get recognized for by this knighthood? Or was it a recognition for presenting a distorted picture of Islam which would justify West's hatred for the religion? His own contemporary writers (Roald Dahl to quote one) criticised his writings at the time they were published by calling them mischief and dishonesty to literature.

Vanilla, When you see, it in the context of what a knighthood represent in this day and age,and those who have received that title, it is totally superfluous.
I have no idea who determines who will be given that title, but they could not be all that bright.
My friend's who are Muslims, place no degree of importance to it.
I do however pray that those wonderful people who call themselves Muslims, would be less sensitive, and get they crazies under control, they are the only ones that can do that.
I personally believe that we were all put here by the same Supreme Being, and must love each other.
Using that logic, we all then become one.

Yes. He tried to warn the world about the evils of islam years ago but few people listened. Now the Queen has woke up to see that Rushdie was right and she did an honorable thing by knighting him. We must not be afraid of evil when it threatens us. We must fight back, and when muslims murder people for insulting their false religion it only proves how evil they are.
Wake up and smell the jihad !

Arash, you don't quite get this freedom of speech thing do you?

As for the questioner, well words fail me, let me guess, you haven't actually read any of his works, including Midnight Children for which he was awarded the Booker of Bookers (I doubt you know what that is) or The Satanic Verses, the book which all the fuss was over.

Rushdie should have not been knighted. He is a coward and a man without virtue. His other books (the moors last sigh and midnight's children)are also pure garbage. Although Salman Rushdie promoted religious hatred it is wrong to issue a Fatwa to kill him.

My opinion is, he went into self-imposed hiding, on fear of his life, for writing a book that exposed the darker side of Muslims and Islam. I don't see how his being knighted has any bearing whatever on Muslim discrimination at all. Why would you think that? Real peace loving Muslims should be glad he was honored for what he did.

I think he shouldnt have been knighted because he hurt a certain community's feelings. If Brits are soo much in favour of democracy n justice, they should have listend to the Muslims too and tried to see from their point of view too. I thnk Salman Rushdie has tried to promote racism.

Well he does not obviously.
The knighting is mostly political, i think, to test the patience of Islamic country and to increase the illness of the people who have the disease called Islamophobia
I believe nothing will happen, except that ordinary people thinking that muslims are against freedom of speech.
We are not - Freedom of speech is alright with all of us as long as lies are not spread. Lies that are reflected in the satanic verses.
