The cycle of Hail Mary's......We are asking "Holy Mary, mother of God, [to] pray for us sinners now and AT THE HOUR OF OUR DEATH". So, were basically asking Mary to pray to her Son for the death of our beloved.

Catholics do pray for the dead for the following reasons:
+ We pray that the the dead person was right with God at the time of his (or her) death. God can do anything and is not constrained by a little thing like time.
+ We pray that the dead person will not have a hard process of purgation.
Yes, Catholics believe in Purgatory.
Are you perfect now? Most people would say no.
Will you be perfect in heaven? Most people believe yes.
Purgatory (or purgation) is the process of God's love changing our imperfect selves into perfect beings.
Depending on the amount of change needed by different people this can be an easy or slightly harder process.
Everyone in purgatory is on their way to heaven.
I don't think Mother Teresa of Calcutta had a very hard time of it.
With love in Christ.

The Hail Mary contains the petition, "pray for our sinners, now and at the hour of our death."
Those who pray the Rosary at a funeral are praying for the soul of their departed, in the event the soul has gone to Purgatory for a final purification before entering heaven.
At the risk of over-simplifyinig things: Catholicism believes that, if you reject God in this life, without repenting before death, that person's soul goes to hell in the afterlife. Those who die without serious sin on their souls, go to heaven. And then there are some, most in fact, who die with some sin on their souls - but nothing so severe that it warrants hell.
The soul must go through a final purification process because only a pure soul can enter heaven and be in God's presence. People on earth can pray for the purification of souls in Purgatory. While we do not understand the "mechanics" of Purgatory, we do know that our prayers aid souls in the purification process.
Putting it in terms of time, so that Purgatory is easier to understand, imagine that a soul spends a certain amount of time being purified. A soul that needs little purification will spend less time in Purgatory than a soul that needs a lot of purification. Our prayers help speed the purification process along, put it that way.
For all we know, since time as we know it has no meaning in the spiritual realm, the complete purification of the soul could take seconds. If the sould we pray for have moved on from Purgatory and gone to heaven, know that those prayers do not go to waste. God applies those prayers to other souls in need of purification.

Catholics believe in a place called Purgatory where the soul goes to after death to be purified of all sins in order to be admitted to heaven. There have been some perfect saintly souls who have gone directly to heaven, but for most of us who are not perfect there is a purifying place called Purgatory. When we pray the Holy Rosary it is for the soul of the deceased. Our prayers greatly help the souls in Purgatory, can lessen their torments and deliver them quickly to heaven.

SOME QUESTIONS AND IDEAS FOR THOUGHT
Is it a requirement for perfection to merit heaven? Yes
Are you or is anyone perfect on earth? No
So does anyone merit heaven in their current state? No
Is there guarantee that at the moment of one's
death they will somehow have come to merit heaven? No
So what happens at such a moment when one dies
without that perfection for heaven? Go to hell?
I don't think God will's his creation is condemned on
account of human imperfection.
Thus the reason for purgurtory and catholics praying for the souls in Purgutory.

Catholics believe in heaven. So, why not pray for them once they are dead. People in heaven are still w/ us spiritually. They can see us and hear us. So, why not pray to them and for them.
