I gave you a star as I think you helped answerers enlighten those that didn't know the answer, as well as yourself. Keep asking questions - that's how we all learn what we don't know. If you want more information on this subject you can read the Bible's Old Testament, go to church, ask a Pastor or Priest or go to your local library. The Bible is a great book but hard to understand without guidance. (My opinion.)

Yes, The old testament occured before jesus was born and there were many different religions then too. You not only had the Jewish people but those who believed in the gods of the Greeks and so on.

Yes, of course; I would draw to your attention that, whilst the New Testament, the part of the Bible that relates to the life and teachings of Jesus and his followers, has 27 books, the Old Testament - the bit that deals with what happened before Jesus - has 39.

Yes. There have always been religions, will always be religions, and as many then as now, and just as divergent. Babylonian, Roman, Greek, Persian--all came before Christianity. That's not even mentioning the Hittite, Jebusite, Canaanite, Sumerian, Philistine, and Egyptian religions, nor the various religions of the time before Christ's birth that were practiced in Asia, the Incan, Mayan, or Aztec religions, or hundreds of others.

OF COURSE!! There have been religions as long as there have been people capable of reasoning. And believe it or not, some of the greatest thinkers ever, were born before Jesus. The ancient Greeks which had more than one God, had philosophers like Aristotle and Socrates who at one time said that the best ruler is the one who doesn't want the job.

Absolutely. There has always been some form of religion. For example, Greek mythology comes from long before Jesus was a thought.

And, Jesus was Jewish, so there was definitely Judaism before he came along..

Christianity didn't come into existence until after Jesus.

Yes, there was Judaism which can be traced back to Abraham where God made a covenant with him and before that you can find the covenants God initiated and made with Noah and Adam. At the Beginning of time (our time) God walked with Adam in the garden. Religion is not something man made up or initiated but rather something God started because He wanted a relationship with us.

If you mean were there other religions before christianity, yes.

But when I read this question, my immediate thought was, "Jesus was born to eradicate religion." He came to show people how steeped in religious practices and laws of man they were and to bring them back to the place that God wanted them to be... seeking a personal and identifiable relationship with Him. Just my late night thought for tonight. Now to bed! :o)

Yes. Jesus was born a Hebrew. There was definitely religion before Jesus was born.

The Hebrews were enslaved by the Egyptians who believe in their own gods. Every culture had their own religion before Jesus was born.
