well right now i have a trek 3700, its a great bike for the money, im not a diehard bike rider but i sure like to ride on dirt trails and also ride on pavement.im 16 and i have quite few dirt trails and pavement trails i love to go on, and i need a good mtb, i would like to get a new trek, i was lookin at the 4500 and seems its a lot better then the 3700, but any other suggestions around those 2 bikes price ranges would be great, thanks

Personally, I would wait and save money. The 4500 is a nice bike, but it really is not a quantum leap over the 3700. It's like you have a Chevy, and want to upgrade to a Chevy with nicer rims. I would keep on riding the 3700 and wait to buy a bike that is in a different class if you want to upgrade. Look for a minimum of Deore LX components or similar.

on XC trek bikes the higher the number the better the bike, get the highest number for the money you have, maybe even sell your trek 3700 for some extra cash,
