Unfortunately, your age does not make your system sound better...
You do have a nice system, but your speakers deserve better amplification than the Onkyo can provide. You can improve by getting a decent amp from Rotel, NAD, Rega, MusicHall - hi-end "starter" companies.

You might want to upgrade to a larger floorstanding speaker say a Q9 for the fronts. Down the road take a look at Arcam for a better A/V recieiver. A good CD player might be worth a look; Rega, Music Hall, Arcam or NAD will provide a slight upgrade in sound as well.
Otherwise you have a fine system...

First off great start. good choices.
I actually a gree somewhat with robert. the sorce material makes a hugh difference. if you dont believe us try this take a cd of your favorite song ( from a store store ) then load it into your ipod , then go to a high end store put the cd in and listen to a top dollar system. now hook up your ipod... you'll be astouded how bad the ipod sounds. however, a ampliier is important to get that signal to the speakers in a auhoritive manner, a weak amp will make a good source sound poor.

For a 17 year old you have a great system. You were working on a budget and used good judgment. Every component in your system makes a difference but there are bigger differences between speakers than any other component. KEF and Velodyne were good choices. Onkyo makes good receivers for the budget conscious. Just a tip from an experienced married man -- Now is the best time to build your home theater -- when you don't have to get approval from anyone. If you finance these other components a future wife cannot argue with your paying your debts the way she could argue with your incurring them.

Hi. What is your Source? .Do you listen to CDs? .If you want to improve your Stereo then start at the Source. Some others on Answers will tell you to get a better Amplifier first but that won't improve your sound.Anyone who is a genuine Audiophile knows the most important component of your stereo is the Source Component and that the quality of the musical signal coming out of this first component defines the ultimate ability of your system .
Add. information
Many people believe that CD Players are all essentially the same because they are digital and somehow perfect as a result.Nothing could be further from the truth and people are quite impressed when they can easily discern the differences for themselves.A poor CD Player can distort the very fabric of music.
Ignore the thumbs down .Why is it so difficult for others to understand the simple logic of what happens after the signal has left the software on its journey to the speakers.Even a 7 year old kid would have no difficulty in understanding how the signal travels from one component to the next and in one direction only.It is common sense .
EDIT
I have been on this forum for over 4 months and i have never found anyone in home theater who understands what i am saying .There are web sites about this but nobody bothers to look. They do not understand the very basics of sound reproduction and have advised people asking about improving their sound with the wrong information.Usually to solve a sound problem they say to get better speakers, when the problem is not the speakers, and unfortunately people believe them.
Do you understand what i am saying ,amani guy.You are an Audiophile are you not ,or are you just saying you are?

well its decent yes for a room maybe but if you want a dj system it's not...am 18 and i have 3 amps 4 15's two 8's a mixer,eq,and cd player etc...now my equipment isn't "high" end gear but it gets the job done now, it's what you like not what it looks like...therefore some little system sounds great in a small room but outside it would choke but since its just for you thats fine...now if you someday have enough cash around $1500 you could get a nice dj setup...again its what you have to work with not what others think., does it sound good to your ears??...get close, far, outside the room and see how it sounds if you don't like it then do what you have tooo

What system? All I see is a pair of speakers and a receiver. That's a good start buy where's the CD player? the turntable, the tape decks.
What are you going to do, spend all that money and listen to the radio?
