It's considered theft and vandalism.

Have your friend file a change of address form with the Post Office. It should never get in her Ex's hands to begin with! If she's afraid of him finding out where she lives thereby, she can send it to a PO Box. If he asks them what the street address for the holder of the box is, they'll tell him they can't tell him.

Tampering with other people's mail in any way is a federal offense.

So serious, in fact, that if you notice your mailman keeps leaving other people's mail in your box, you may have a reason for a big complaint. You are not to be made responsible for other people's mail, in any way at all and they should not even leave mail for other names in your box.

It is considered felony theft as well as mail tampering. Your friend's ex could be in very serious trouble. Have your friend contact the Postal Inspector in your area. Go to www.usps.gov for more information.

Yes it illegal. Your friend should go to the USPS website and sign up for Preferred Forwarding Service. It costs about $10.00 a week, but you only need it for about 2-3 weeks anyway. Good luck

No, it would have to be proved that the mail was opened and read before burning.

You think?

That's a federal offense. Big time in the house. I suggest that you have the friend report this to the police.

Yes, and it is till a felony. It's also interfering with the mail system, another felony. It's also intercepting mail, yet another felony.
