I need to loose weight for my health. My dad has type 2 diabetes, and I don't want to add to my risk of getting it by my obesity. I'm 5'5, and I weigh around 180. I have extremely buff legs... but an extremely flabby stomach. I've been doing plenty of ab workouts each day, but I want to take it a step further. Are there any good books that would suggest a healthy diet for a 15 year old? I do volleyball conditioning three times a week, but only once do we run and weight lift, the other days we just weight lift. I know running and swimming is a great way to loose fat, but I've heard that running impairs your vertical... and swimming isn't readily available. Any advice would be much appreciated.

It sounds like you're exercising enough, so all you can do now is eat less. Since you're an athlete of sorts, I guess this should be pretty intuitive:

Take the body weight you want to be at, multiply it by 12-15 to get the total number of calories you should eat to maintain that body weight. (It's a rule of thumb, obviously. There could be exceptions.)

Add to that whatever you burn through exercise daily (or on whatever days you do whatever you do). Get some numbers here: http://www.primusweb.com/fitnesspartner/jumpsite/calculat.htm

Subtract some number of calories between 200 and 500 (the total number you will be extracting from body fat). Eat whatever number of calories remains.

That should do the trick and you should gradually lose the weight. Good night!

A great magazine to read would be "Womens Health" I read Mens Health and it gives a lot of great advice.

If you want to lose weight and be healthy then you need to start with your diet. NO junk food no soda, no alcohol etc. Aerobic excercise would be good in place of weight lifting especially for a girl
