Without a doubt, I think everyone who comes to the United States to work or to live here must learn to speak English. No one should expect this country to provide them with all their needs and their services in any other language. My father petitioned to come to this country legally, as soon as he arrived, he went to school to learn English, he continued to teach his children Spanish, always reminding us that English was our primary language. The cost to provide the many services that are needed for the millions of illegal aliens here in this country is in the millions of dollars, its unfair to expect the American citizens to pay for those services. When traveling to another country, I would never expect any services to be provided for me in English, I realize that it's my responsibility to learn their language.
For the first time in my life I feel under valued by our politicians, there is not one representive today that I feel represents me, my family members or my friends, we all feel totally abandoned by the people who are supposed to represent us. I have not heard any representive, who is running for president, bring up this topic of illegal aliens and the fact that when an illegal alien enters this country, he/she breaks the law. I don't understand why its OK to break the law, do we choose what laws are OK to break and what laws are not. Our members in congress cannot get together to vote for a immigration bill, all they do is fight accross party lines. I also resent the illegals marching, demanding change in our country. I feel that they should go back to their own country demanding change there. If illegal aliens wish to live and work in this country, then they must adopt our ways, fit into our culture and speak our language, English. I think its time to deport all the illegals, if they wish to return they must petition the government and enter this country legally..

People living here need to learn the language here, ENGLISH. If I moved to another country, I sure as hell would learn the language there. But here, we put up with that crap for some reason. I live in El Paso, Texas, and I go to Wal-Mart and have cashiers who speak no English. Now how the hell is that OKAY?

My brain is telling me Spanish because where I live, that is the second most heard language. Personally, I think learning Mandarin or Japanese would be beneficial in terms of technology and business. It's a tough call...but for right now, based on current languages in my area, Spanish is my vote.

I agree that if you choose to live in the USA, you should learn their language (English). But the people that come here do learn English, but choose to speak Spanish more. Just think if you moved to a Spanish speaking country, you would learn Spanish, but you would still speak English with your friends and family. And people can not just take away their rights for freedom of speech, if they want to speak Spanish they can, because the Constitution gives them those rights. If you criticizing a person for Speaking Spanish in the USA, you are only criticizing your own Constitution, because that is the law of the land that gives them their freedom of Speech!

If you are smart you will speak english because it is the language of business. If your an illegal drug dealer and get caught they take all your illegally aquired property..car,boat,house,cash etc. Well if you are an illegal alien everything you aquired was aquired illegally, so they should take all thier property and auction it off to pay for all the other illegals bills..hospital,prison,food stamps etc. then deport them, if caught again..work camp for 5 years..we need alot of work done in this country on infastructure..mainly a wall from Cali,to the gulf of Mexico.

I totally agree you should know the language of the country you wish to live in, or how do you understand the laws of its land, or function properly at a job or just in society generally?

I know immigrants that are Romanian, Russian, Australian, French, Canadian, Yugoslavian, Italian and Irish. All of them speak English when in the company of Americans. Especially the Romanians - one particular family speaks their native language in their home, but not when I'm in the same room. When I'm in the same room, they speak English. I never asked them to do this (it's THEIR house!!) but they have basic respect for their new homeland. I have YET to meet a mexican with even a small dose of respect (and I live very close to Hazleton).

WE HAVE OUR HERITAGE TO PROTECT, AS AN AMERICAN BORN CITIZEN, WE SHOULD PROTECT THE NUMBER ONE SPOKEN LANGUAGE; ENGLISH. IF WE PERMIT OUR COUNTRY TO BE OVERWHELMED WITH SPANISH SPEAKING PEOPLE, SOON WE WILL BE TRANSFORMED INTO A NATION OF A MULTITUDE SEEKING TO MAKE OUR COUNTRY LATIN AMERICA.

Nonsense. Let them speak whatever language they wish.
However, no government materials, not government help in the native language, period.
Private business do as they choose.
I won't patronize them.
I will patronize a business of any U.S. citizen of ANY ancestry, just not one that caters to illegal immigrants.
