to my question. It wasn't my intention and perhaps I should've worded it better. The reason I singled out Christians is because based on my observation on this board, "some" Christians seem to be the one who spout of at the mouth about "the truth" and try to cram it down other people's throat as if everyone should just shut up and accept it, but yet when atheist or other religion begs to differ, they lash out with insults much like the one I got on my first question.

And no, this is not a new phenomena for me (as one poster suggested). I didn't claim it was. I'm 17 and was raised a Christian (now an atheist) so I know that this kind of thing happens and it has happened to me on numerous occasions in our church.

All I was trying to convey is that "your truth" may not be the same as "my truth" and to please refrain from judging others because they don't believe in the same thing as you do.

I went through the same issue and even apologized on YA for it like you have.
Let me give just a little advice...we are who we are, I thought like you that we can give and opinion without making it judgmental, but no matter how "gentle" we try to be about it, somehow, someway, we offend others. I guess that's what separates all from another.
What ever your question was that you are apologizing for, just let it go. You keep on asking questions and stand firm in what you believe, but don't degrade anyone or belittle anyone and you will be fine.
Oh, and by the way, I'm a Christian. You see, alot of us are pretty cool:)

If you've spent any time here and looked at some of the answers and questions, everyone seems to lash out at everyone else who doesn't hold to their point of view.

As to truth, however, there is truth, and there is The Truth. Truth may differ from one person to the next, but one person's truth is not necessarily The Truth. For example, if I say something I truly believe which is wrong, I have told the truth even though the truth I told was erroneous. THE Truth, however, is always true, and does not require one to belief it, or even know it, and IT is Truth for all, whether they like it or not. And yes, that includes if the The Truth is that God doesn't exist, but also if He does.

P.S. Would like to know why you're an atheist now.

Bravo. Truth is not an absolute, it is relative to the perceiver.

It is unfortunate that so many labor under the misconception that there is only one TRUTH. No wonder there is so much dissension -open your minds people. There is a really big world out there, and it is full of truths just as valid as your own.

All I can say to you that looking through history,it has been a Christian "belief" to try and convert everyone to the religion. The Crusades, the Spanish Inquisition, missionaries to the new world, missionaries to Asia,Missionaries to Africa. Also, looking at history, most of those that didn't convert, got conquered. So take it with a grain of salt.Christians think everyone needs to be saved and they all just try and do it naturally. I am still confused as to why the Romans adopted belief in Christ and God after they crucifiedJesus. Did they do it out of guilt?

I'm sorry that your truth is not the truth but there is only one truth. It is not my truth or your truth it belongs to God. Simply believing something does not make it the truth. All people who disagree do not have their own truth but many are deceived to believe a lie.

Don't listen to the ones who say there's only one truth. Truth, to me, is all how you see a situation. Your right though, just because christians see the "truth" one way, doesn't mean that all people should see the "truth" the same.

But when it comes to matters as important as whether or not we have a Creator, whether or not there is a positive future for humankind, etc, could there really be more than 1 truth???

Don't apologize, as you are 100% right. Many people don't want to face the music that there are many other people with other beliefs that believe in their way just as much as they believe in their own, so they feverently fight back. Most of the time, the fighting is people trying to keep themselves convinced that they are right.

The truth is just that, truth. Its based upon facts. Opinion is not. Jesus is the truth and I pray you find your way home again. Someone has lied to you and you have chose to believe them. God will always take you back, He is full of Grace and Mercy. Find a bible based church, read your Bible. You wouldn't have such an attitude unless you knew that what I'm saying is true.
