There is no standard rate for either fare - it varies from city to city (and even occasionally from cab company to cab company).

Even two cities right beside each other have different rates:

In Toronto, it's $2.75 for a cash fare...
In Mississauga (the city to the immediate west) it's $2.50
In York Region (Markham, Richmond Hill, etc. - to the north) it's also $2.50
I don't know about Brampton (NW) or Durham Region (East), but they are probably around the same range...

(sorry, I don't know cab rates - but I think they start at around $2.50 to $3.50)

In NYC the local bus fare is $2.00 which includes a free transfer either to another bus route OR the NYC Subway provided the transfer is completed within 2 hours of the initial fare payment.

Express bus fare Is $5.00 which also includes a free transfer to a local bus or the subway within the 2 hour limit mentioned.

Yellow cab fare is like Detroit - $2.50 to start. However, we have livery cabs which have to be requested on the phone (they are run by private companies which may have varying fares).

I live near Seattle, Washington; the cab far is about the same here; the bus fare is a little higher, but not much - like $2.
