no.... you should leave it there, out of courtesy and politeness, unless they tell you "take this with you we wont use it" or something like that. if you spent quit a bit of money on the bottle that wasn't drank from much and feel you want your moneys worth by bringing it home....next time buy a smaller bottle......i mean come on they paid and cooked for your dinner the least you could do is leave the bottle you brought over to their house. right?
what did you end up doing?

You leave it. You are bringing the bottle as a gift. It is considered tacky and *** backwards to take what was not drank. That would be like not leaving a tip at a restaurant.

I'd be drinking it if I brought it. If you don't plan on drinking it, you obviously bought it for them, so leave it there. Otherwise, buy something you are going to drink.
I can't imagine why you'd bring booze then not drink it. If you drank theirs instead then even moreso....you should leave the tequila behind.
We only take our alcohol home with us if we are going to a BYOB and the hooch isn't perceived as a gift to the host.

You leave the bottle. Why? Because you brought it to that person's house as a gift. Do you take birthday gifts back after they are unwrapped?
It is the same thing.

It's better to leave the bottle there with them. It's tacky to take it home. To solve your problem, get them the smallest bottle.

Proper Etiquette is:
Leave it there... it was a gift to the host and hostess
and if they offer for you to take it home, refuse at first , but if they insist saying they wont drink it etc, then you may graciously accept..
Really,, taking it back is in exceptionally poor taste..
hope this helps
