What would be worse? Killing the colony of pests to protect your kids from possible anaphylactic shock from multiple fire ant bites, or watching your kid die and/or suffer horribly from the ants and their bites?
What do you do, creature lovers? Me, personally, I have so much Ortho in my lawn, 20 years from now, a queen ant will try and start a colony and lay sterile eggs. I hate ants. Sorry. Bunnies are a different story.

Course, this is a no brainer to most of us, but some people up here make me wonder...so I had to ask.

I carry ants and flies outside because I don't believe in killing anything except to protect myself from them. We can Love and do no harm. I was a vegetarian for 7 years. The creatures know not to invade our space but some don't listen. I learned a lot from Animal communication classes I took.
If the aunts are possible harm then you need to protect yourself and children. If you can dig them up without harming yourself and transport them far away in a big garbage bag that would be kind. I know that would be a big bother. If not then hot water or bug killer will be their end. Avoid gasoline. you can get burn doing that. I tried it once and almost was in flames myself. The fumes caused flames to lick at me as I ran away. I just tell the dead critters to go to the light and tell them I'm sorry. It is there day to go. I still feel bad but it either them or me.

Shock them to death. Put a moat around the mound and put fire crackers on the mound ( Fourth of July you know) then have a fire around the moat and then place a heavy object over the colony and smother them. There is so may things going on that they will die of The fire crackers, the water, the fire the smothering and the shock.

I don't know how true it is but I have heard that if you put orange peels in the yard near an ant hill they will leave if you cover your whole yard with orange peels then you r yard will smell funny and you will have no ants. Try it and let me know.

Hmmm.....most people don't even ask these questions so I am shocked that you are asking. Bunnies, ants, wasps, monarch butterflies, bees.....would you kill a bee knowing that they are dropping dead everywhere and we have no idea why? They pollinate our food, of course you wouldn't...or shouldn't? Teach your children to stay away from the ant piles. Easy as pie!

Any surfactant suspended in tap water would do (try 1% v/v Joy). Just spray it all over your plants and grass.

Might I suggest "Tide" brand laundry detergent to anyone who wants to get rid of fire ants, without using stuff that is poisonous to people.
