The Treaty of Guadalupe Hidalgo is the peace treaty, largely dictated by the United States[1] to the interim government of a militarily occupied Mexico, that ended the Mexican-American War (1846–1848). The treaty provided for the Mexican Cession, in which Mexico ceded 1.36 million km² (525,000 square miles) (55%[2] of its pre-war territory) to the United States in exchange for US$15 million (equivalent to $313 million in 2006 dollars) and the ensured safety of pre-existing property rights of Mexican citizens in the transferred territories, the latter of which the United States subsequently failed to honor. The United States also agreed to take over $3.25 million ($68 million in 2006 dollars) in debts Mexico owed to American citizens.
The Treaty took its name from what is now the suburb of Mexico City where it was signed on 2 February 1848.
The cession that the treaty facilitated included parts of the modern-day U.S. states of Colorado, Arizona, New Mexico, and Wyoming, as well as the whole of California, Nevada, and Utah. The remaining parts of what are today the states of Arizona and New Mexico were later ceded under the 1853 Gadsden Purchase.
When people say "stole" they are just using layman's term for what really happened. You have to admit that the US took advantage of a situation, but that is why the US is the US after all. However, I don't think that the The Treaty of Guadalupe as a reason for illegal immigration is a good argument. It is illegal to enter the United States or any other country without inspection so I don't care how they put it or what excuse people want to use, it's just wrong, period.

Chika, $15 million is cheap? Not in that day and age.
It IS simple history, but mexicans aren't literate enough to KNOW what's actually in the books because most can't read, and if they do, it's at taxpayers expense (see Dream Act and the 10 states that are violating federal law) and then they just say we paid whomever to write history.
PS The "TREATY" of Guadalupe Hidalgo ... treaty means agreement ... why don't the mexicans overthrow their own corrupt government for giving away their "native lands?"
They don't have a leg to stand on and they know it. So what if we stole it (which we didn't .. $15 million is not stealing, duh) we're here now and WE AMERICANS run this show. Get out of my country, dammit.

Ive never heard this arguement before regarding illegal immigration. Ive heard about it concerning Native Americans.
Anyway, assuming im in my own world, Most mexicans, latinos, and South Americans are not Europeans, but rather decendents from earlier tribes. They might consider the USA part of their Native lands as well, and believe all they truely own it.
They can claim whatever they want. Truely, it is a horrible arguement. I wouldnt stress over it too much.

Not that simple, when the line was drawn in the sand that gave us what we've come to know as Texas, NEWmexico, Arizona, and California we displaced peoples not just Mexicans but Native Americans they were here before the English and before the Louisiana purchase, hence their culture, language, towns and cities never left. Yes we did kill to get another treaty, and paid people so we could write the history. The border is porous for a reason or two.

Partly it was stolen because the USA had to kill many inocent people and only paid a poorly amount of money for all that rich (in natural resources) land! I'm sorry but ...maybe you should start paying attention in class and actually learn about our American and National history!
$15 million not stealing?!?!? what?!?!?! that land was rich in natural resources! and come on don't tell me that all that was going to cost so little! Take the time to think about it.

Yeah, you would think. Then again the only time Mexicans would come up to the states back then was to steal Native American babies to turn into slaves or human sacrifices.

Just something to complain about. If Mexico is such a great land and filled with opportunity...then why don't they stay there? But nearly everyone seems to want to come here, live the American dream...then change the dream and the rules once they arrive

they will do anything to keep from admitting that all these tired a$$ excuses are just that...excuses.....excuses to keep from having to look into the mirror and know that they're wrong and are criminals and need to return to their home and make something of their own land and quit bringing up things that had no effect on them at all. why all of a sudden do they complain about this. i lived in southern california for 10 yrs and never heard about this
