because they are religious and not spiritual.

Good point. At the same time, while some Christians are praying for people's damnation, there are others that want to make a somewhat polite, yet forcible effort to save you, possibly because its supposed to reserve you a seat in heaven.
The Bible is, compared to the world at large, narrow in some viewpoints, true. I think that people just get hung up on the wrong things, like gays and such. Its easier to complain about how others are different and bad, rather than be compassionate, helpful, and understanding like the big Jeez. ;)
But then too, also, hey, bad grammer.... I'm not saying this applies to all christians, and that's actually kind of general to say that most are hypocrites, since hypocracy knows no creed, sex, religion. It can be worse in certain regions, sure, and its areas like that that paint a bad image for the others.

You will find that in most of the Christian Churches, if not all. The thing about the Christian faith is that they believe [Christians] that according to the Bible those who did not choose Christ, chose Hell. I cannot agree with that, and apparently, neither can you. Because the Churches are so narrow minded, it is up to the individual to decide what they want to believe and what they don't. You might try a Unitarian Church, they seem to be pretty open. I wonder if fear ( the fear that Christians might be wrong after all) is what keeps so many from expanding their minds.

There is a difference between so called Christians and "Christians". Obviously your minister who tells you that other religions and Churches are bound for damnation has got it wrong, and i hope more members of your congregation are as sensible as you are to see through his hype. However extending that myopic opinion to all christian, especially catholics, is taking it too far. The catholic leadership has demonstrated beyond doubt that the catholic religion is open and welcoming, (visits to mosques, synagogues, etc and candid talks and engagements with various shades of religious opinion from Islam, to orthodoxy, etc. There are however some religious groups that cannot be counted as being on the right track and the fact their leaders end up marrying up to 10 underage members or encourage all the members to commit suicide proves this point. Hey are you still with your minister, It's time to bail......there are saner places for worship.

To start things off, I'm a Christian. I hate that you've had bad experiences with other Christians....I do admit, some of them are 'pushy' about their beliefs. I am also pushy, but not to the extent that I would drive someone away. I have many friends that are atheists, they know I disagree with it, and they know what I believe....and that's it. I don't try to 'preach' to everyone. I lay it out on the table, and leave it.
Not all Christians are hypocrites. You could find people of all beliefs and all religions who could also be deemed hypocrites. It's not just us.
I'm sure your beliefs and mine don't mesh, but that doesn't mean I wish ill will towards you. Try to be a bit more open-minded towards everyone, not just Christians, and maybe you'll see that we're not all trying to force you into anything.
P.S. It's really hard for some Christians to believe that people don't believe the same way as them, and I'm one of them. Therefore, it's sometimes hard for them (us) to find a good response when someone says they're not a Christian.

I think it just seems that way. The good Christians -- the ones that love their neighbors, do unto others, and walk humbly in Jesus' footsteps -- aren't the ones who come to these forums, screaming about how pious they are and how they're going to pray for you. The Christians we get here are either Bullies for Jesus (never picking up on the incredible irony) or so incredibly insecure about their beliefs that they can't stand the thought of someone believing any differently. I sincerely think they're in the minority, but unfortunately, they're the only Christians that some people get to see. And they chase a lot of people away from Christianity. Which is a shame, because Jesus had a lot of good things to teach, and I'm sure a lot of people looking for direction in their lives could genuinely benefit from his real message. Which has nothing to do with what these narrowminded, judgmental, fanatical lunatics rant and rave about.

Who are you calling a narrow minded hypocrite? You don't even know me? Kidding! I do know what you mean! See it all the time in my Church. I think that they want to live their life exactly as they have been doing all their lives and it is a joke to be in Church in the first place. Oh you said 'most' Christian - I am in the minority I believe.

Wow... You must live in a very fundamentalist area. I'm Christian, and I personally don't think ANYONE who's good intentions out way their bad intentions goes to hell.
When it comes to Christians being hypocrites....
Please come up with a better name for us. There are hypocrites everywhere; at the grocery store, at the police station, at the golf course....
Just because a vegetarian buys a steak at the grocery store doesn't mean you have to stop going there.
Just because a couple of officers on the force have gone through dark times doesn't mean you have to stop trusting them to protect you.
Just because your golfing buddy took that extra stroke in the rough thinking you'd never notice doesn't mean you have to quit playing golf.
I'll tell you what I've read. "The best way to get away from hypocrites is to dig a 20 foot hole in your back yard, crawl inside, and have someone burry you. Even then, you'll still be in the company of one hypocrite; yourself."

may 60 years ago that might have been the trend in the catholic church but i dont think that now or even 40 years ago i was taught that we respect all peoples faith they just have a different route. i think sometimes people even fall of that route. read the history of christianity, and the first followers of christ. they are called catholic translated from greek means universital, and the word orhodox means original or true.remember protestiant refermation begain with martin luther.and that is when protestiants begain! so what was the first christian follows called? read in your history book. and no .i dont believes your are bound for hell. GOD BLESS YOU AND READ!!!

I have also experienced being told that I cannot
enter heaven because I belong to another faith. I just laughed
it off because most other religious sects are conveying this
false message. Only those who are members of their sect
are entitled to enter the kingdom of God. They do this to
attract more people to join them and increase their flock.
Whatever religious sect a man belongs, as long as he does
not commit wrongdoings or things that are harmful to all
existing inhabitants of this world should not be afraid of
eternal damnation, for there no God that will wish harm for
a good man.

It is only by tearing others down that we build ourselves up. That is the way of the world. It is not God's way but it is a human corruption of the love that has been handed us. Not all Christians are the same, please do not group us all even all the ones in one religion. It is my belief that God is so infinite and multifaceted that the truth of him cannot be contained in one religion. And though we stand side by side our perceptions of what we see are going to be slightly different at least. Jesus said no one can get to the Father except through Me. I submit my take on this. If Jesus is God and God is love then the only way to get to heaven or to the Father is through acts of love. No one that leads a life of love will be turned away from the gates of heaven no matter what religion they practice. God is indeed merciful he will understand that we did the best we could in our lives and love us for who we are.
