is having anticipatory anxiety better, if you can plan that you might get anxious and then plan how to get rid of it?

1) Practice your part or response a few times
2) Learn to focus your mind on another thing or activity inorder to relieve your tension
3) Eat a little bit, exercise outside, do something to focus (play a musical instrument, read a novel, etc) put your feet up and get a few winks of sleep.

Whatever your participation, the more intensely stressed you are in anticipation, the more difficult it will be for your mind to think in a normal freeflowing manner. If you treat this event as simply one of many of the things in your life, then you are more likely to perform better under a lower amount of stress.

Put the effort out to do your best, but recognize the rest of your life does not hang in the balance if you perform poorly. This is just one event among many.

I usually have anticipatory nervousness, i feel i am able to think about different ways, to divert my nervousness. Also talking about how nervous you are is also good, most people are just as nervous. People just hide it better than others. My nervousness appears in my voice, but i see people restrict it to tapping their fingers and many other things. I'm sorry i can't actually give ways to rid yourself of anxiety. But if its something you can practice in advance, that always helps. Just keep practicing, preferably in front of others. The better understanding you have of what your doing, the easier it will be. Good luck

I have to rely on medication for anxiety but you can, not drink coffe (it makes you more anxious), and deep breathing. Put your head between your knees and breathe. It helps.
