I think it is a blessing to be given such a gift. You verbally thank that person and maybe treat them to a nice dinner or a gift certificate as another form of appreciation.

Send a heart felt thank-you and let them know how much their generosity is appreciated - you can list a few ways in which the car will make life easier for you, and how you will be reminded of them every time you drive it.
