It's not a rule, but it will save you a lot of heart ache. The reason that is said is because, if you don't love yourself, you are more likely to let someone treat you wrong. If you have that love and respect for yourself, you take better care of yourself and don't let people step on you. When you don't have a high regard for yourself, a relationship can get bad fast.

Yes, it's true. when you are constantly thinking negatively about yourself, you don't have time to think about reaching out to others. when you feel good about yourself, you know you have something to offer others and do it willingly with no regrets. You enjoy being with people and make friends easily, if you love and respect yourself. If anything, a person that doesn't love himself will take from others but have nothing to give in return.

It's definitely true. If someone else loves you and you don't love yourself first, you'll find a way to muck it up. Either you'll feel that you don't deserve the happiness of anothers love or you'll sabotage the relationship by not trusting that the love is real. Loving yourself has to come first. Trust me. I speak from personal experience.

The truth is that others may love you and be your greatest friend but untill you can TRUST YOURSELF to love and Trust THEM and believe there love youll be the happiest just friends in the world but any closer thats when the unhappiness starts because your doubts about yourself will cause them about others so stop doubting yourself and get out there and love someone. I know easier said then done but youl never know till you get off your but and try.

Yes it's TOTALLY true. You can't give love to someone before you give it to yourself, then you wind up at a disadvantage in whatever relationship you're drawing reference to (mother-daughter, sister-brother, bf-gf, friends etc) You should first love, trust AND respect yourself before anyone else.
Hope this helps, love urself!
(But not in a creepy way)

Yea....thats the first thing you have to do. How can someone love you....when you're always looking down on yourself and not loving you. You have to respect yourself also. But if you dont love you, then you dont know how to love anybody cause thats where it all starts

I am not sure about the word "love" but I agree that you really need to know who you are and happy in your own skin before you are ready for a relationship.
It is good to know that you are responsible for your own happiness. You can not expect another human to fix that for you. Do you know yourself well enough to know what makes you happy? If you do, you will know right away if another person will fit into your happy life.
