I live in a some-what small apartment. The hall is not large enough to display my two poster-sized black and white travel photos. I also have some family pictures that are in black and white. So I was thinking about a wall with all black and white photos. My couch & loveseat are black leather, black coffee and end tables with a red accent rug (i am wiling to get a new, different color rug).

My question is what color would go well with what i just described....or any color at all?...or maybe I'll paint the wall the couch is on and leave the photo wall white (but that seems to make the two compete for the eye).....

Your thoughts????????? Thanks!!!

What color should I paint my wall of black and white photos?
I live in a some-what small apartment, 900sq.ft.. I was thinking of getting a new entertainment center b/c it's tall & black with wood accent.

My question is what color would go well with what i just described....or any color at all?...or maybe I'll paint the wall the couch is on and leave the photo wall white (but that seems to make the two compete for the eye).....

Your thoughts????????? Thanks!!!

red is typical. everyone would use it...but it is a light absorbing color and would make a small area appear even smaller.

yellow is a light reflecting color and would make a small area seem larger. it will work with the bl/wh/red you already have, but will put zing into the mix. lemon for bright cheerful fun...or a soft yellow for a mellow look. a deeper, darker tone will have sophistication.

hope this helps.

I`d leave the accent rug as is and paint the one photo wall a deep red to make the photos pop. Red, black and white is a classic combination. If ur accent rug is bright red, I`d change it to a deeper shade to blend with the wall color.

A color that looks lovely with black and white is a dark aqua (I think you can call it Teal). Looks beautiful - not too girly or too masculine. Paint the photo wall this color. Then you could get a new rug with cream, teal and aqua. Or, if you decide you want to keep the red rug, go for a chocolate colored wall.

What color are the photo frames?
If you like the red, go with it for the photo wall.
If photo wall is across from couch, hang a large mirror over sofa in gold or silver frame.
Add other accessories in the silver or gold, and put small accents of red [ in candles, a vase, etc. ]
Get some pillows in gold or silver to throw on the couch.
Get some gold [ brass ] or silver [ brushed aluminum ] lamps with white shades.

If your space is small like you said..then paint it pure white. It will make your space look bigger. Try a rug that is black and white accented red or turquiose! It will look great!! I just helped design a friend's dining room that way! Good Luck!!

Any color can go with black and white, but bold colors or earth tones tend to work best, because they really highlight the contrast in the black and white pictures.

i reckon a deep crimson or burgandy would look best. Also u said that it was a small space and these colours add depth. Also for the space problem try mirrors, a wonderful illusion, it makes a place look twice as big, specially if the mirror blends in

red, white and yellow all make statements with the pics and furniture.

take your pics to a carpet store. put your pics in front of the carpet colors to see which one you like. it is a cheap way to select a color for your walls with no investment.

Bright red almost like a cherry. no patterns or you will stare at the wall instead of your photos
