In my school there's one christian who is very out-spoken, particularly about his rightgeous path and divine relationship with his holy saviour. He is a hard core anti-aethist. He always keeps on saying how foolish aethists are, and in contrast how brilliant christians are. So on christmas eve this guy was selling pencils to raise some money for whatever.....Anyway, so i approached him and said i'll take the 25 cents pencil. I paid him the money and took off with the pencil...only to return to the guy and say, "You know what, i changed my mind, i want the 50 cents pecil instead, is that ok?" "Sure", he said. So i returned him the 25 cents pencil and said, "Just now i gave you 25 cents, which when added up with the the pencil i just gave you back, it adds up to 50 cents, right?" "Right", he said as i took off with my 50 cents pencil.

Lets see, i just got a 50% discount on a pencil worth 50 cents, BRILLIANT!!!!!!

Well, i forgot to mention that, i did later on that day return both his 25 cents. I did this to make him realize that his feet are still on the ground

I'm not a religious person and really think that half the stuff people believe is plain silly. Fooling a person does not prove anything. Anybody can be fooled and have been fooled a couple of times in their lifetime. There was really no lesson learn. He will realise that he was taken only when he gets home and counts the money. He will find that he is 25 cents short which means that some atheist stole from him. He will be correct. A better alternative was to go back and show him where his mistake was. That way you would had shown that just because you don't share his belief you are not automatically a thieft. A lot of religious people have this idea that say that if you don't go to church then it is impossible for a person to have morals. To distinguish right from wrong. Ofcourse, their assumption is wrong. As a matter of fact the atheist who acts morally is the stronger person because he/she acts based on morals and not based on whether his/her actions will lead them to eternal damnation. The thing is they have to be showned and what you did will only sthrenten his believe that non believers to bad things all the time.

Yes, but you still probably gave him a 10 cent donation. lol

Atheists are frequently the subject of discrimination and scorn. I know we often hear Christians announcing that they are oppressed and restricted from expressing or proclaiming their faith. However, take a look at your local Yellow Pages (if you still have one) and note that there are several ads that display the Christian fish symbol <><. They do not have to fear of lost business because of their public proclamation in a business ad that they are Christian. On the other hand, a friend of mine is a professional photographer. He does everything from free lance work for newspapers, periodicals, books, etc. as well as portraits, weddings, special events, and the like. He was the chair of our local Atheists group for a while. Someone searching for his business web site found his name associated with the Atheist group and called him to ask if he was the same person who was a member of the group (or if it was a coincidence and he shared a name with the person they found on the web). When he said he was in fact the chair of the local Atheists group, they withdrew their business and convinced a friend of theirs who was going to use his services for their wedding to fire him as well.

This reply is becoming much longer than I had anticipated but humor me for a moment and consider this. How many openly Atheistic presidents have we had? We currently have two likely candidates for the next presidential election, one a Caucasian woman the other an African American man. An Atheist (of any gender or race) would have no chance of becoming president at this point in history.

All that said, don't give your money to religious fund raisers. :)

do Atheist and Christian alike have to resort to such an embarrassing gap of heart to show how one should not be . I like the Devils advocate to a degree in books or plays and movies but people take it to new extremes of ignorance . I would not comment but for the fear that this is just the tip of the ice berg where character and spiritual enlightenment are deficient . And no I really don't believe in public humiliation but the idea should be addressed .
peace

So you admit to being unethical, taking advantage of the kindness of someone else amd cheating the people that he was raising the money for and you are proud of it. I see why it is so difficult for atheists and Christians to have a respectful conversation. You have summmed it all up in your question. And it is a sad commentary on you.
Hey blue sky if you would like to e-mail me one or two of those at a time I would be willing to give a shot at answering them . I like challenges.

Atheist, aethist, it really doesn't matter which way it is spelled. You may think the Christian is a jerk for his attitude. I walk the path of neutrality in matters of this kind so I tend to agree with your assessment of him. But you are the bigger loser for being a cheat. Get off your own smug path before it is too late.

You are betting your life on your ability to cheat a Christian into a discounted pencil?
I'm not sure what you would call wisdom but this is not looking good for your side of that argument.

Like the first poster said, take the money you saved on the pencil and buy a clue.

Lets not make atheists (note spelling) look bad, huh?

With as self righteous as he sounds...would have done him one over instead to just let him know about a great donation you were making to some great charity (why not, he likes to boast, may as well join in), so you are sorry that you can't afford his pencils at this time...

Christians aren't really that great. They talk as if they're on top of everyone which is hypocritical since they have to love their neighbor and all that good stuff. They're no different from Atheist or anyone else.
