I was raised Catholic but I never really bought into the Jesus idea. How do I go about "finding" Jesus realistically. I really want to try.

Jesus knows that you yearn for Him in your heart. Pray to Him. Try to be loving to all people. Also read your Bible.

In a short book I read, called How to Read Your Bible (By Bishop Kallistos Ware) it says about reading your Bible:
"Saint Tikhon of Zadonsk, writing in eighteenth century Russia, has this to say about our...attitude towards the Holy Scriptures: " If an earthly king, our emperor, wrote you a letter, would you not read it with joy? Certainly, with great rejoicing and careful attention. You have been sent a letter, not by any earthly emperor, but by the King of Heaven. And yet you almost despise such a gift, so priceless a treasure." He goes to say: "Whenever you read the Gospel, Christ Himself is speaking to you. And while you read, you are praying and talking to Him."
This is how you should read Scripture, with great eagerness to learn and grow in Christ.

I am glad that you "really want to try" to find Jesus. Please look around you and see that nothing here would be here if He did not exist. Do you believe that Jesus exists? This is something you need to ask yourself. Because if you go on to acting like you believe in Him, and really have not grasped onto this awesome fact that Jesus is here, that He exists- then how will you really get to know Jesus.
You must turn from your sinful deeds, these are barriers in your walk with Christ, get rid of your pride. This is something I have to work on often. (Sometimes you have to just get up and walk away from the tv when something that God would rather not have you watch is playing. )
When you find an evil thought in your head, something that may cause you to sin- know that it is temptation placed their by Satan. Believe in Jesus and pray to Him and do not fall into the temptation.
Pray always.
God Bless

Perhaps what you should be looking for is the truth. Don't just think that because you were raised a certain way makes that way right. You should truly ask yourself what you believe the truth is. Really put your faith to the test. Ask yourself: Why do I believe what the Bible says? Why does God send people to hell for no other reason than they have a certain belief? And why would God even send his son to die for us knowing that by doing so he will be creating a religion that will lead billions into hell?

Ask yourself this and see if you still want to believe or open up your mind to all things and come to the realization that if there is a god then he is perfect and above creating a religion and sending people to hell.

the first thing you have to do is not wanting to "try" find Jesus, but really want to find him. Then, if you really have this desire in your heart to find him, you have to find more informations about him as many as possible. You have to ask for the forgiveness of your sins and the accept Jesus as tour personal savior. But, what i really advise you to do next is to talk to God. Tell him what you want, explain him that you have thedesire to know him better. Talk to him as if he was just near to you, and let him understand your situation. After all, Jesus also wants you to know him more. He wants to teach and show you things you have ever seen, but all is waiting is you...

The King James Bible - John 1:1 In the beginning was the word and the word was with God and the word was God. Jesus has never been lost we are all lost but he is always there with his arms open saying come to me no matter what he is always there. Everything you need is in the bible just pray and he will reveal the truth to you. (Acts 16:31) "Believe on teh Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved." Hebrews 11:6 "But without faith it is impossible to please him: for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and that he is a rewarderr of them that diligently seek him." Acts 2:21 "And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.. " Jesus came to die for us to be saved from this sinful world. He loves us more than we can ever love ourselves all we have to do is call on his name and praise the King of Kings and believe. We have a direct connection to Jesus Christ through Prayer and Faith. Go to any Spanish speaking neighborhood and say "¿dónde está Jesús?" Or look for a group of day laborers near your local Home Depot and say the same thing.

Search for Him It says all who seek Him will find Him. Read your Bible (try Romans and John) pray Pray that He will show Himself to you. Pray like the young man in the Bible " I believe Lord Help me with my unbelief" Find others who arealso involved in getting to know Jesus. Find someone more mature spiritually to help you.

The Bible, mostly the Gospels is a good place to find out who He is.

Then a relationship with Him would come next and you'll see even more of His greatness.

And then God/Jesus is always found in a good church

#1 - Pray. SIncerely pray to Jesus, repenting for not "buying into" him, as you call it, and ask Him to reveal Himself to you.
#2 - Go to Scripture, especially the gospels. As you learn more about what his apostles wrote about Him, you will learn more about His personality. And He hasn't changed! He is the same God now as He wa then!
#3 - EXPECT to find Him! You will!

Reading His word is a good place to start. Realizing what He did for you. Realizing that what He did made it possible for the sins you commit every day to be washed clean.
