Yep, My mom is my best friend. I guess you could saythat we have the same belief but since we have separate experiences I tend be be very different from her. I think our friendship lasts because of mutual respect for one another.

I do have a best friend. We've been friends since the 6th grade (which makes it almost 20 years).

She does not hold the same beliefs as me. In fact, we are polar opposites. That's kind of why we like each other so much. As for actual religious beliefs, she's Christian, and I'm agnostic. We just don't have a need to talk about those kinds of things much. We both agree that they are personal decisions, and that we aren't out to convince each other of anything. It does come up every now and then, but we respect certain unspoken boundaries.

Our friendship lasts because we have unconditional love. I can't describe it any other way. A lot of people think we're weird because we're so close, but we kind of think other people don't value true friendship enough. :)

I have a few :)

One is Sunny. We met four years ago. She is a pierced, tattooed ex-tow truck driver, now a destroyer of bugs :) I admire her for her ability to be true to herself. She really is one of a kind. Plus, we have had some good laughs, me and her and our two husbands.. and all the kids (between our two families there are six kids) She was raised Methodist, but her current beliefs are best described as agnostic.

The other is Gabby. We met 22 years ago. She is a very stable, loving, giving person who at the same times takes crap from no one :) She is a Catholic... although I think she is beginning to lean away from Catholicism and more towards paganism like her sister has done.

And the other is Sherri. She and I have been friends for 30 years (we met in Kindergarten). She is a school teacher, which I have great respect for. She has always been one to have a goal and stick to it (very unlike me). She was an agnostic until 4 years ago, when she started attending a non-denominational Christian church. She has recently been baptized and I would describe her as "born again." What I love the most about her is that she knows I am an atheist and has never once tried to convert me. Aside from her letting me know she was baptized, we have not discussed it, and I prefer it that way.

I appreciate and love them all :)

OK Other than my spouse.

Annette

We have been friends for just over 10 years our children oddly enough are the same ages (19,17 and 10).. We met at our ob/gyn's office... I know weird place to meet..

No we do not hold the same religious beliefs but we do hold the same beliefs that our family's come before all else..

We genuinely enjoy each others company and have a lot in common having children with such a wide age gap.. We have a lot of the same difficulties planning activities for everyone(activities not to young for the older kids not too old for the youngest kid)... We can talk every day or have weeks and weeks between talking and it's like no time has passed..

Yes, I have a best friend. We've been best friends since we were 15 years old. (22 years.) She's closer to me than anyone with the exception of my husband, and I love her with all my heart. She's Catholic and I'm atheist.
What makes our friendship last? I don't know if there's any one thing I can put my finger on... we both have a similar sense of humor. We make each other laugh. We truly care about each other and respect each other. We work at our friendship. Our friendship has survived even our being separated by miles (from the age of 19-25 she lived in Philadelphia and Denver, while I was here in Connecticut, and she's lived in Florida for the last 3 years while I'm still in Connecticut.) There's lots of reasons why we remain friends.

At this time, I don't really have a best friend, as such. I have had, in the past, best friends, which is to say that I placed more value on them and the friendship than anything else I can think of. From one to the other, we did not, any of us, ever agree wholly on anything, and that's really what made the friendship strong. Our beliefs were similar enough to have a common frame of reference, but divergent enough to provide much source of continual conversation and debate (sometimes heated). I miss them, having not seen them in quite some time, some as long as 15 years or more. Right just now, I miss them very much.

Yes, Athena is my best friend. She does have the same beliefs that I do. A lasting friendship involves you being a friend always.

Definitely my brother. We can finish each other's sentences or just look at each other and bust out laughing cuz we are thinking the same thing. The fact that he's an awesome trivia partner doesn't hurt either! I think many of our core beliefs are the same and we also appreciate the differences we have.

I have been blessed with more than one, so I will narrow it down to the one I am able to think out loud with, and we still love each other. We met when my younger sister brought her around in the crazy '60's. She was more streetwise than I, and saved me from a few bad encounters during our hippie years. She is Godmother to my three children, and two out of four of my grandchildren. I am Christian, she is Jewish. Yeah, I know churches have rules about who the Godparents can be, but we go by the love rule.I am respectful of her laws, and she is respectful of my freedom! I still usually have to buy a frying pan when she comes to visit because of the pork issue, but she is worth it! She is a RN in a large hospital in St. Louis.

Mandy, how great that you have love and respect for your mother, and call her your best friend. She is blessed to have a daughter like you!

My best friend and I met in fifth grade ... over 40 years ago.

She is as fundamentalist Christian as they come. I am a Catholic convert.

Our friendship is about love, respect, and all the usual good things, but what it all boils down to is ... we can make each other laugh. Side-splitting, tear-flowing, roll-on-the-floor, totally-losing-it laughter (often with others looking at us like we've lost our minds), that makes good times even better and heartbreaking times not quite so heavy. It's precious, and priceless.
